Coming off the back of Claus's recent betting revelations, as well as Matty's admissions in his autobiography, did anybody else notice anything strange about the kick-off in the Team GB v New Zealand women's match yesterday? I noticed it briefly when they showed some highlights of the game on the news last night so I went back this morning and had another look at the match coverage on the BBC iPlayer and sure enough if you fast forward to around 9 minutes 15 seconds and then watch the kick-off the Team GB player blatantly just kicks the ball straight out for a throw in. There are two team mates out on the right wing initially but they advance a good five or ten yards when the whistle blows so the 'attempted' pass goes well behind them. Go and have a look for yourselves. Do you think I'm on to something or are we just back to the age-old argument that women's football is c**p?
OK then HR, I will: If the pass only goes ten or fifteen yards behind them, I'd say it just goes to show how much the women's game has progressed
It more goes to show that British football in general is crap. If a british player tried to kick a ball out for a throw nine out of ten times they would miss the touchline.
I was watching the womans olympic football earlier and it occurred to me that the female body is an intriguing and mystifying organism. It is capable of Creating, carrying and harbouring new life but it is also completely incapable of making a simple six yard pass. Mesmerising..........
Yeah, I've watched a fair bit of womens football, inc Pompey, & the standard is just.....how shall I put it......not the same as what I'm used to. Still, entertaining enough, just got to keep a pinch of salt close by. No offense to any females Pompeylapras....(and that sure is a pretty dress your wearing sweetheart! )
Strewth Guys you will be looking for reds under the bed next............I guess every time a pass is miss placed or a foul is committed you will look at your watches and say....someone has just made a couple of hundred.......Guys to get this right the ball has got to go out of play exactly at a given time. Agreed you can probably do that at kick offs and goal kicks but during the height of the game you haven't got time to look at your watch. So after the first two or three minutes of the game starting all this stuff is just not viable.
Yeah but the pool of Women players is tiny compared to the pool of Men players. Plus it's only recently that Women have started getting paid so previously someone could have been an amazing footballer but would drop out of football because it wasn't a viable career. Thanks, I got it from M&S.
Plus, most of the players tend to be fairly young as they drop out for obvious reasons. Problem for all female athletes.
Women goalkeepers are awful because they have difficulty bringing the ball into their chest. The outfield players tend to lack a bit of pace compared to their male counter parts but there's no reason why they can't be ok footballers other than these reasons. It's worth watching though for shirt swapping at full time
