If the takeover is not on the cards, where is this philanthropy towards the playing side coming from?
I like to see about £4m being spent in transfer fees on a promotion team over the course of two seasons, maybe £5-6m in the assembly of the entire squad, and around £15-20m in total including wages and agent bungs. THE TRANSFER FEE BALANCE SHEET: INCOMINGS: Pearce, Kenny, Austin, Varney. Total: £1.55m OUTGOINGS: Clayton, Lonergan. Total: £700k TOTAL LOSS: £755k So that isn't too bad. O'Brien, Bruce, Forssell, Webber and Taylor leaving will have helped cover wages for free incomings like Green, Drury and Ashdown. But we still need to shift the deadwood or tell them they're staying. That grey area doesn't help anyone. Hope we don't end up in a stupid bidding war and pay something like £3m for Maynard though.
While its promising that we have bid 1m for a striker. I hope we don't sign Maynard, I think he was always hugely overrated by Bristol City fans and isn't that great overall. I think he is better than Mackail-Smith though
I'm not particularly bothered about Maynard in particular either way, it's the intent shown by the bid that I'm pleased about.
I reckon poor old Colin is just filling the squad with 'lightweights' - it makes no odds to him - cos he'll be getting his P45 if and when you get new owners!
He's already said he's received the full backing of the new owners and if Colin says something I believe him.
Really - you're happy with Colin happy to waste money on more dross? Look at who he signed for QPR the year they went up compared to who he has signed for you - a million miles apart
Actually not in any way. Fitz Hall? Shaun Derry? Tommy Smith? And we're having an entire squad overhaul, not just starting 11.
Yeh - it's normally the other way round - on a Saturday the board says 'we have every confidence in our manager' on the following Monday - they sack him! Watch out for masterBates he'll get you in the end!
Money will be coming from the imminent sale of Snods. The moment Norwich hit the right valuation the deal will be done. Did we pay for Varney? Pompey will be liquidated in 2 weeks and their players will be free agents. On Andy Gray, he is not a signing to take us FORWARD as a club. Then again Colin somehow gets journeymen to star for him, so hopefully Gray bags 20 goals and shuts me up.
You don't pay for signings using the money from the sale of a player who hasn't actually been sold and play him the same night, risking injury.
You don't? Snods was always going, it was just the price. Playing him sent a message to Norwich to get a shift on. Why do I bother telling you this?
We do appear to be becoming the oldest team in the league and one that is full of freebies. **** really, but that's life under Bates and the pretend buyers.
Simon - Warnock didn't sign Fitz Hall and Tommy Smith was not a pre-season signing, you also inadvertantly left Rob Hulse, Adel Tarabt, Bradley Orr, Jamie Mackie, Clint Hill & Leon Clarke off of your list - as I said "a miilion miles apart" - nb He never sold his best players from the previous season either
Well Boab, here's mud in your eye. The sticking point still apears to be investment rather than buyout. Bates still wants the riches of the Premiership, and has two ways of getting this: 1) he gets investors to float his squad and when Leeds get to the Prem he sells out for higher stakes 2) he sells out now but retains a percentage/has a clause inserted guaranteeing a fat payout I do not have info on how the due dilligence has gone, but can only believe it is okay. We are not spending investors money, that I have been told. All current transfer dealings are being sanctioned by Bates/Harvey, and yet again they are quids in with the sale of Snods/Lonners against what has come in. Of course, the extra cash will simply help to bump up the buying price...who knows, maybe part of the deal will be that Bates keeps the Snodgrass profits as part of his payoff. We still have to look at the talks as investment not takeover until Bates actually folds his hand. The way our transfers are going suggests investment, as surely a new owner would want to keep our best talent to help get Leeds to the Prem and the riches that come with it. Why else buy Leeds if not to make stacks of cash by getting to the Prem?
i see it this way would you rather rush the T/O or let us have the time to do it the right way? (us meaning leeds not me lol)
