An interesting post on the Chelsea board, discussing which is the biggest derby in English football and a lot of Cockneys are saying its the Tyne/Wear derby. Very suprised they are saying this.I thought it was just people in the north east would say this. http://www.not606.com/showthread.php/157889-The-rivalries-in-England
None of the London derbies are that big and there are so many of them that rules them out. Liverpool and ManU would look forward to playing each other more than they do their neighbours so that takes out the North West. Some of the Brum derbies are a bit intense but again there are a few to go at so that dilutes it a bit. Therefore for uniqueness and intensity it has be us.
Biggest derby game in England has to be Us v Them . I've always believed that. Biggest derby for pure hatred though goes to Glasgow.
In my opinion, the biggest derby game in England now has to be the Manchester derby. We have had to wake up and take them seriously all of a sudden, they're no longer noisy neighbours they are truly competing on every level with us. Historically we'd pass off the derby as a nothing game, even if we lost it meant relatively little to the red half of Manchester. They mean so much more now, and that will fuel more and more passion over the years. I agree that the North East derby looks the most heated in England, it's very passionate and sometimes I think it might mean more to the fans than winning trophies or finishing higher than the other team - a bit like the bindippers with us. I will say though, the Turkish and Argentinians take derbies to another level, talk about hostile, they make the Old Firm games look like Songs of Praise.
They will probably meet in the cup over the next few years and then it will be huge! They used to play each other 4-6 times a season but if it goes back to being just once or twice then it will be carnage in Glasgow on those days.
Ours is the only one without any variable that takes away from it. The Manchester derby is now the biggest but then it is two teams from the same city. Tyne Wear derby isn't just two rival clubs its two rival cities tribes, people. Maybe biased but i think ours wins on points. Of course now that they had a good season and a large number of there fans have disappeared back up their arses it will just be "another game" to them now on their quest for the title
It probably is the Tyne Wear derby in terms of English rivalries. I wish it wasn't as we never seem to win it or even manage to keep 11 men on the pitch, but in terms of passion and ferocity from the fans it can't be matched. Celtic v Rangers is/was the biggest in Britain as a whole though, since it has so much more at stake than football bragging rights: religion, nationalism, politics, etc.
I accept the Tyne-Wear derby as a derby, a lot of people would question it as both teams don't compete in the same city. The biggest game in England is United vs Liverpool particularly the Old Trafford fixture would historically get more attention for some reason. Sunderland vs Newcastle means relatively nothing outside of your catchment and historically has had little impact on anything, with all due respect.
Read the thread on the Chelsea board, a good one till the Scousers piped up! In terms of local passion ours is the biggest, easily, in football terms, United v Liverpool (United v City going forward) is the biggest 'game that is a derby'.
You're the only one who seems to have a bitterness towards people based solely on who they support...and Cest of course.
would you like me to pull some of your comments about Sunderland from your skunks only board. don't forget im on my own board and don't go a wandering, your a skunk and we all know you slappers will go anywhere.
