I don't want him to go i think he is one player that is a automatic starter every game ......BUT the amounts be banded about do seem to be hard to turn down anything close to 3.5m i think will be taken, then its all about who we can get in to replace him........hopefully its just paper talk

Monkey, the potential problem is that even Joe Whight admitted to struggling to adapt to being a full time professional and that both he and the club have said that he didnt progress as much as they would have liked last season.
I think we all are basing our belief in Joe Whight on what was hoped of him 2 or 3 years back when it was said what a potentially great player he could be. If his progress as stalled as much as it has been suggested then it could be a disaster.

Yes, but it seems to be about getting his head right. The rumours about Arsenal circling give an indication to his talent.

He's probably still growing but Wickham managed to handle it at that age & Lawrence does too.

I think every youth player must have a season where they don't progress as expected, they're human after all. I guess we'll see anyway...

Monkey, agree 100% its a major change of life from being a student to starting work, especially when the expectation levels and talk of your potential is so high. Personally I would hope we loan him out for a year to get regular games under his belt at a lower level.

Good point. But I would worry about sending him away from home if his frailties are on the mental side.

And for anyone celebrating Delaney going to Forest:

    Ainsley ain't good enough
You're forgetting the contribution he made with Smith at the end of the season
Why start all over again in getting a replacement, possibly at left back too
I'd rather keep him for another year while Chambers & Smith bed in

agree on the potential pitfuls with Whight Monkey but on Delaney, I will celebrate him leaving as he cant play football. He is commited and has the right attitude but he cant kick or header. He will quite happily block anything (I think this is because he has no brains - hence his inability to kick) and is like a wall but he is too much like a wall, ie it bounces straight off him and he can do nothing about it.

hewitt is a right back and a very promising one at that - you did well to get him <ok>

i like cresswell i have to say but i don't think villa will be prepared to pay for him - they turned their nose up at naughton for £4m and he's worth more than that in my opinion - so think he'll stay with you guys, which to be fair is probably the right thing for him to do at the moment. young players are too quick to move to bigger clubs sometimes - a bit of patience and he would go straight into their team in 12 months time rather than sit in their reserves or be a bit-part player for a year (not that i'm saying he will go in a years time, just making the point <ok>)

agree 100% supers. Most youngsters get their heads turned by attention from the big boys but 99% of them are never heard of again. The likes of chelsea and man city buy enough youngsters to fill up about 3 teams and to me it seems obvious that unless you are the best of the best you are never going to be in a position to get a true chance. As long as the lower league club has got a decent coaching set up you would be better playing there and if you live up to your potential then you can still get your move to the big time during your early 20's but will have a wealth of experience behind you.

well i think it'll get worse over the coming years with the top academies snapping up any youngster who can so much as kick a ball in the right direction. strangely, it might work in the favour of clubs lower down the pecking order who can snap up these youngsters when they are deemed not good enough by the big clubs, but these kids will have been coached to a high level. it wouldn't surprise me to see many youngsters be released by the top clubs, go to clubs lower down, only to be bought back again by the top clubs for big money! <laugh>

how old is cresswell? 21, 22? he's still young and has plenty of time to improve - he'll do that quicker though at a lower level at this stage by playing as many games as he can. it looks like we are about to snap up snodgrass and he's 24 - perfect age to be making the step up in my opinion. he's proven himself for a number of years and deserves his chance - same would apply to cresswell if he carries on his development.

Supers, I made the same point on here when there was all the arguments over cat1/ cat2 academy status. We may not get the players here as 15 year olds but we can snap them up once the big boys have made them decent enough but not able to squeeze past all the proven internationals at the relevent clubs.
Totally agree on Cresswell, he can improve here for another 2 years and still have a great career and become a multi millionaire even if he waits until he is 25.

Please let the Delaney rumours be true(still wouldn't make for the loss of Cresswell though!)

I've got the car running, the city ground postcode is log in the sat nav, i'll be round in 10 mins to pick you up damian!

as for cressy, he has been the most vocal player in the media about the spirit within the squad and i believe he has just brought a house in ipswich the summer, i reckon unless they match our valuation its a no go. but stranger things have happened!

Another fullback, Kolorov is meant to be leaving Man City for AC Milan for £6.2m so I cant see Villa being interested in Cresswell for the same cash.

I know I will get slated for saying this but as its a forum of all different opinions here goes! I have watched Cressy for most of last year in a lot of games and to be perfectly honest, I don't get all the hype about him! He can't beat his man and he gets beaten too easily by a tricky winger. He doesn't deliver enough quality into the box either. Yes he is young but he is still too raw and if someone like Villa comes in and offer stupid money for him then I would bite their arms off! The French kids we have on trial especially the left back look pretty handy and there will be other adequate replacements out there. Anything over £3 Million and I would be happy with a decent bit of business and G&T's all round!
