Morning Folks, Four signings in a day Is this a sign that things are changing at Elland Road? Is Big Ken still in charge? Leeds United have completed the signing of Luke Varney Jamie Ashdown Rodolph Austin Andy Gray A fantastic bit of business by Colin. Although Varney did not set the world on fire up front for Pompey last season, he is a very useful edition to the squad. Ashdown, a former England U21 player is solid and dependable. Austin looks solid and Combative whilst Gray knows where the back of the net is, and would suit a super subs role. Whats even more exiting, was a statement by Warnock saying :- 'The crucial signings are still to come'..... Does this statement allow us to get excited? This time last year we were signing O'Dea and Ruchubka, look at the signings now!!! Who is going to renew there season tickets now?
Morning... Excites me Austin I am very hopeful about but I can't say Varney or Gray get the taste buds tingling if I am honest.
Morning. Certainly looking ever greener as we push towards the start of the season. Warnock's record in this division should show that he is to be trusted in the transfer market. Andy Gray is a gamble, yet may score the odd crucial goal. If he doesn't perform he's probably on a small wage anyway. Relishing the next couple of weeks. A couple more quality players and we'll look in good shape. Although obviously our main priority's should be tying down Snodgrass and McCormack to longer deals. It would be interesting to see where this money is coming from as the takeover is yet to be announced. Surely not a compassionate Kenneth on his way out! Anyway, off to work I go.
It is certainly upsetting our Millwall friends, they are on a fishing frenzy, don`t bite chaps! It feels good that we are moving forward at last
Although it is exciting getting new players in and we can compare it to the amount who never came in last season, don't forget how many players who have already left and those still on the transfer list. Webber, Sam, Parker, Mikka, Forrssell, Lonergan, Clayton, O'Dea, Bruce, Robinson all left who played a part last season. Paynter, Connelly, Nunez, AOB, Rachbuka all listed, an awful lot of gaps to fill.
I wouldn't like to believe he will start ahead of McCormack, Somma or Becchio and I am not going to get excited about pre season goals against part timers, even Paynter scored one. I would even prefer Cosmics solution, put Poleon on the bench and give a youngster a chance. I know everyone wants to take a positive out of it, I just can't bring myself to. Look at it another way, had Leicester signed him would we be shaking our heads and saying one that got away, we could have went for him or taking the piss out of them?
Morning all. In Warnock I trust, but not sure I fully approve of the ages of his latest signings. Bit short term. That said, if it gets us up where we belong, then so be it. But I think there will be a big set of departures soon. Hopefully it will be those who no longer feature, rather than any of our crown jewels. Off the back of all of this, will Snoddy now re-sign?
Andy gray is terrible we had him at Sunderland but hope he does tge job would like to c u back in the premier league big club great support all the best for the new season
Morning all !! cheers Roker, good day yesterday more to come and apparently Andy I dont want to play obrien is off to an unamed club as well !!
Obviously nearing the time when bates takes his final bow, thank god. The signings so far have got me feeling better, but it's Austin who does it for me. he'll either be player of the season or a major flop, so I just hope he can adapt quickly, but on paper we've got something a bit special. Grey can only be a sub because it looks like Billy is going and Somma is still crocked and may miss months again. The comment about a major signing could only mean a star forward, so it looks like Ross is also going, so this new siging must be better than Ross. If its 2 major signings I guess it could also mean we'll be getting someone to replace Snodds too. On paper the squad is stronger than last seasons and can only get better, especially after we shed Billy AOB etc. Feeling more confident every day.
But he won't be ahead of Becchio or McCormack/McCormack's replacement, and Somma is still crocked. I agree the likes of him and Varney are hardly inspiring, but in terms of squad players they're very useful back-up. I think Colin's comments about setting Varney a target of "8-10 goals" were telling, coupled with "the crucial signings are to come".
Gray better than Forssell Austin better than Clayton Ashdown better than Chubs Varney better than Paynter Also saw comments from Ross yesterday saying he hadn't seen anyone as fit than as Andy Gray, I don't rate the guy but Leeds united means more to him n his family than any other **** club so he may actually perform for us, can't be worse than what we had previous
