http://www.portsmouth.co.uk/sport/pompey/pompey-past/read-the-sos-pompey-letter-in-full-1-4084360 Published on Monday 23 July 2012 07:30 Below is a copy of the letter which will be handed to Pompey players as they arrive at the training ground later this morning. When you joined our football club certain promises were made to you, you signed a contract and on that basis and you have every right to demand what is justly yours. With everything that has happened you, like us supporters, have every right to be angry, you are as much a victim of the incompetence that has left our club teetering on the brink of as anyone. Now though you have the chance to write your name in the history of our club, the decisions that you make will decide whether one hundred and fourteen years of history come to an end. Generations of Pompey fans are praying that you are able to reach a compromise with the administrators and while legality and indeed morality are on your side, we can only appeal to your conscience. While those who have done this squabble over the final remains of Portsmouth Football Club, without a care for those who have been put out of work, or the businesses forced to make cut backs because of non-payment, you can show the world that you care. You can save this club that so many of us care about, you can demonstrate that footballers arenât the shallow, selfish people that is portrayed in the press. We hope that with your help Pompey can survive and, under the ownership of the fans, can slowly but surely be turned around. We know that the potential sacrifice we are asking you to make is immense, but we will not survive without it. Thank you PLAY UP POMPEY --------------------------------------------------- This is it lads, final orders at the last chance saloon. Time for these "men" to step up and show the world their morals. Will they "do a Mullins" and help save our club, or will the likes of Bel(lend) Haim and Dave "Twit"son drag their heels in and bang the final nail in to the Pompey coffin? On a related note, rumour has it that Portpin will offically become the new owners of Pompey tomorrow (28 days after the creditors meeting).
You know, thoughout all this I have been dissapointed with the PFA. I thought their job was to help deal with these kind of disputes but we have heard little to nothing from them. Gordon Taylor said something about compromise about three or four weeks ago but then the organization itself appears to have done nothing to help reach that compromise. Now, they may be working behind the scenes in this matter but if that is the case then they have been proven to be a toothless beast that has failed to achieve anything because the situation remains dire.
Sadly I think the advice from the PFA may well be "hang on in there and grab as much as you can, don't agree substantial wage reductions 'cos the wonderful footy creditors bollocks means you stand a good chance of getting most of your money". All unofficial like.
Possibly, but it still seems to me that the PFA has become largely pointless. There was a time when the PFA actually took an active interest in player/club disputes - even if it was just to side with the players - but in the modern football world all they seem to concern themselves with is education for professionals and former-professionals and offering support to injured players.
Trevor Birch has now told SOS Pompey that the club is 2 weeks away from liquidation........... and it's all Kanu's fault. Yet a week ago 2 new contracts were issued, a Director of Recruitment and an Assistant Coach. These will increase the football creditors claims. Okay............. now I'm confused.
This article is really worth a read: http://www.fansnetwork.co.uk/football/portsmouth/fb_news.php?storyid=17605
I honestly don't believe that Jeffrey Archer could have written a novel as complex as the dire fiasco at Fratton Park. The club's administration has become a laughing stock and the actions of the administrators, past and present, along with the last 3 'owners' put a new meaning to the phrase 'You Couldn't Make It Up'. Thanks for sharing the details of the letter Jake. To be honest though, I don't think it will make a jot of difference to the pending decisions/actions of the remaining senior players. My heart sinks a fraction of an inch deeper each day, as time runs out for our club.
In 1982 Bristol City were in a similar position to what Portsmouth are now. The club was minutes from extinction when 8 senior players effectively ripped up their contracts and saved the club. These players are now revered in Bristol City's history - they saved our club (know as the "Ashton Gate 8") 30 years ago it was a different era, with no agents etc. However, it should be pointed out that those players had not accumulated the riches that todays players will have, and had no long-term security. I just hope that some of that spirit is still around today in the Pompey dressing room. Keep you heads up lads - we are all rooting for Pompey to survive.
Whoever framed that letter seriously needs to take up english language lessons. It,s a joke. Luckily, those to whom it is addressed are unlikely to note any errors - they are not the brightest stars in the universe - but they sure can count money. I think the amount of extremem abuse they have taken on social networking sites is hardly likely to soften their stance. I fany pompey fans have shot themselves in the foot - again
Well that is the first time the rumour has come up about Portpin. Very contradicting considering TB has today said to Sky they could be gone 'in days'... Also BC has today said that his bid is all dependant on whether the high earners leave. So your 'rumour' sounds more like wishful thinking... <whistles>
I fear that OUR 8 don't have the same high calibre morals, and that they will see the club go under before "ripping up their contracts". Ill informed as ever I see RLGB. 1: It's not the first time the rumour has come up. 2: It would make sense as we were told that Portpin had tabled a bid, which had a 28 day cooling off period. Today is the final day of that period, so logic dictates that either Portpin pull out today OR the become owners tomorrow. 3: I'm pretty sure Birch has said two WEEKS, not "days". I'm aware that 2 weeks is 14 days, but it seems to me you are trying to portray our pretty dire situation in an even worse light. 4: We have known from the very beginning that Chainrai (and the Trusts) bid was conditional, I am 99.9% sure that this is not a quote from BC today.
Ok find a link where this 'rumours' has occurred Yes, it was a conditional offer, however, this was before all these other conditions and strict financial measures when you were hit with 10 point penalty. BC throw his toys out the pram a bit and hasn't been heard d since. The Trust simply cannot afford to run the club, however I do admire the efforts they have made in raising money. Ye cooling off period was today. Yes. However, with TB coming out and saying they have a couple of weeks implies that options are pretty much gone. It was also quoted as saying 'days' on the SSN Breaking News bar. Not ill informed at all Very much up to speed with it.
Not sure whether this is anything new but it's made the front page of the BBC anyway. http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/18958234
We'll agree to disagree then. Why don't you concentrate on your own club instead of following Pompey so closely?
Shoddy reporting again. Only 5 players there for training today. Erik Huseklepp, David Norris and Greg Halford stopped and took the letters from the 10 fans. Dave Kitson drove on but went back and took a letter (apparently once he was advised that they weren't the press) and Tal Ben Haim did not take a letter nor did he speak to the 10 fans.
Cousins are all Pompey fans. They've already bought season tickets and one of them has even made a pledge to the trust. So I do know quite well what is going on
