So our back four will once again be thrown to the wolves as Song bombs forward, leaving them dangerously exposed.
Yes so I guess Wenger is putting his faith in Diaby ...Again. To be fair I have always rated the guy. He could have been a great player(maybe he still will be?) but his ankles are made of biscuits. Who knows if he'll ever get over this injury problems. Maybe he'll do a Van Persie. He is certainly a MUCH better player than people realise. Quick, strong, direct and has a good eye for goal. It looks like we were interested in M'Vila but for whatever reason we pulled out of any deal. Maybe it was'nt because of his behaviour issues (like the papers are claiming) maybe it was just because Wenger has decided to stick with Diaby.
I can just see it now Diaby plays the entire season and then decides he wants to leave to win trophies. Also Big mistake if Wenger doesnt sign a class DM.
Relying on Abou Diaby will most likely backfire. I also think that M'Vila is a different type of player, he has much more composure when he's is on the ball and has a better range of passing whereas Diaby tends run about like a headless chicken at times. I do hope Diaby stays fit.
It's not so disappointing. M'Vila would have been expensive. Song has been improving each season and hopefully next season will be his best yet. It may be difficult when he goes to the ACON though. Also, we have Frimpong and Coquelin who show lots of potential in that position. Like many of our players, they seem to be injury prone though. I can understand Wenger's decision and I kind of expected it. He has a tendency to keep faith in players that may not be good enough. Song is on the verge of being good enough and may continue to improve, so I'm not so bothered about it. We need to sign an attacking midfielder more than a defensive one at the moment. That is the priority. Perhaps after we sign an AM he'll turn his attention to M'Vila again.
Song is a quality Defensive/Box to Box midfielder. He's always been vastly underated by Arsenal fans. Arteta is defensively solid and so is Wilshere. I would have liked M'Vila purely because he's a top class midfielder but to be honest I would prefer Wenger spends the money on an attacking mid/playmaker.
We have had this discussion so many times. But in my mind Spurs failure last year and England' failure in the Euros both were due to playing Scott Parker in the old-fashioned DM role. 4 midfielders cannot bring the ball forward passing the ball on the ground against 5 box to box midfielders (or 2 vs 3 in the middle). By playing Parker in front of the back 4 you reduce chances against, but you also reduce your chances coming forward by a far greater number, or you have to go to the long ball game. In today's game, as a team with aspirations to win, you simply can not afford to have a dedicated DM who is limited in his ability to come forward and help play the ball.
He's not putting his faith in diaby, he listed the midfielders we have and he hasn't mentioned anything about ganso although i don't know if that will happen, its all relative to the sale of rvp and how much he goes for and diaby is a very good player but his fitness is a problem.
What you need are box to box midfielders who are able to defend when it's required of them, and have the sense of mind to read the game and know when not to go forward. I don't think Song can do this, but there is room for improvement. M'Vila is the complete product imo though.
Well obviously you are entitled to your opinion, but M'Villa looked very limited coming forward and much weaker in the air than Song. We also often have Song marking the opposition playmaker (e.g. Modric) defensively and M'Villa doesn't make me think that he is capable of that.
