Who will be the top dogs of London?

Discussion in 'Chelsea' started by Hoddle is a god, Jul 21, 2012.

  1. Can us and the Gooners top you guys for a second season running? If AFC's "one-man team" leaves, will AFC even be able to hold off the challenges of QPR and Fulham? With the mighty Spurs juggernaut already revving its engine, will we stall under the control of our new driver?

You've undoubtedly got the better of the three squads, but for me there is a massive question mark against RDM, who is more of a mate to the players than an actual manager. My feeling is that he will get "found out" this season, and I'm not sure that the ensuing disruption and change of manager (around New Year time) can be nullified by the quality of the squad which, without a leader, could flounder.

The mighty Spurs juggernaut is, of course, driving into a pitch blackness, wit h it being too early to know if AVB knows where he's going, let alone whether or not he knows how to drive. Yes, I have my doubts about him, but I think he'll be better able to express his true abilities at Spurs than he did at CFC.

For AFC, the key thing for them is going to be whether or not the likes of Walnut will stay, when RvP leaves. Part of me really fears for them, and I'm wondering if we could see the shock sacking/resignation of Whinger, come the New Year?

Is it too early to call? Or do you guys genuinely believe that CFC will be the top dog in London, come the end of next season?

I disagree about RDM. He showed how tactically flexible he is last season with attacking displays such as 5-1 vs Tottenham (<whistle>) and counter attacking displays such as the Barcelona games. I admit though the league will be a different ball game for him, but I don't think he'll be found out, because I don't think he's conned anyone.

If I'm honest, I think atleast two London clubs will be top 4. I would definitely put money on us, and I'm leaning towards Tottenham as the other. I don't know, it doesn't really bother me as long as Liverpool stay away. <laugh>

I fear Spurs overachieved with Redknapp and will struggle again, like they did pre-Redknapp.
Spurs will definitely be the wrong side of the top 3 London clubs.

I reckon we will finish ahead of both North London clubs but I expect yet again for Spurs to give a good account of themselves. Both Manchester clubs, us and Spurs to make the top 4 this season.

I'd Be very surprised if it wasn't Chelsea or Arsenal tbh. But with RVP gone and us stronger than we were last season in most areas I feel we should be finishing comfortably ahead of one North London club if not both.

I feel far more optimistic about this season than last where I did not think we'd even win a trophy

Spurs and Chelsea will finish above Arsenal. Arsenal's current side are appalling.

    Hope so.

One thing for sure is that at least Chelsea and even Spurs can enter the new season with optimism.

Despite the brave front Arsenal fans are trying to put on there's no way if you'd said to them they were going to lose their only world class player but replace him with a guy that couldn't even light up the Bundesliga and a guy that had one good season for Ligue 1 minnows they'd be happy. They are trying to convince themselves Wilshere will save them but I don't buy it. As talented as Wilshere is he won't just hit the ground running after such a lengthy lay off and there problems IMO aren't in midfield. Their big problem is Wengers obsession with overloading the team with midfielders and average defenders.

I believe Chelsea are just 2 players shy of being a really good team that could even challenge the likes of Bayern, Barca and Madrid never mind just the Manchester clubs.

I'd be surprised if Chelsea didn't fly the flag for London! I cant see the others (WHU apart) on the basis of Managerial/Player changes from last season making forward movements. We have got rid of/parked non-performers and brought in some top draw signings plus letting a couple of quality youth get some time with pre season games! We also have a star mnager in the making with RDM! I cant wait!!!

I agree with what your saying about Arsenal but i don't think spurs will be a lot better than them will be tight between them and Arsenal with Chelsea being the best London side imo.

You have made some decent signings, i think 3 teams are capable of winning the league this year, Manchester United, City and Chelsea should make for a good campaign. Should be good competition for the top 4 spaces aswel.

Chelsea would have to be favourites for Londons top team. Firstly we have a manager who inspires players. Secondly we have strengthened our squad in pretty much all the right places, and are but 2 players away from a truly great squad.
But by far the most important thing, missed by most, is that the "Old Guard" have been quietly neutralised at last. The worm has turned to the point where virtually none of them, except Ashley Cole, is even assured of a 1st Team place. They will all have to perform all the time ,every time just to get in the team. If they cut up rough again, stiff ****, we have better players than them anyway.
Hopefully they will finally realise that there is a place for them in the team , but not in the drivers seat any more.
Spurs to overtake Arsenal this season, especially if van Persie legs it.

Chelsea will be the team to beat, for sure. Spending £70mill and counting adding on an already multi, multi-million pound side would make it embarrassing were they not to at least top the other London clubs.

They still need to sort out a few more things before the start of the season but they're the most prepared and don't have the possibility of losing a key player like us and Arsenal have. We're also two strikers, a winger(or two) and a Modric replacement short meaning we've got arguably the most to get sorted before the start of the season. With a suitable replacement for Modric and Ade(hopefully) I think we've got a first 11 that can match most others in the league but a lot will come down to AVB, others stepping up like Walker did last year and of course some luck if we're to finish the top London team.

The bitterness is strong in YV today. Making your excuses early this year!
