Alright lads and lasses. We've all been there. We've all cast assumptions about new signings and been totally wrong. Some of us mistook Jonas for a new Messi-type character, following a dribbling masterclass on his debut at Old Trafford. Most of us felt that Cheik Tiote was going to be a peripheral character and competing with Kevin Nolan for a spot in the team. And some of us felt that Michael Owen was going to be the Second Coming!

I'll admit, I've gotten it wrong on numerous occasions. A few examples - The word 'gutted' does not do justice to how I felt about selling Big Andy, even for that fee. After witnessing Albert Luque tear AC Milan to shreds the previous season, I felt he would be a massive player for us, and an incredible coup. And I also thought Seb Bassong was going to be another Diatta!

So come on, let's have a good laugh at some wrong assumptions we've had about players coming in or out of the club!

I assumed that James Perch wasn't going to be a world beater - how wrong was I!

I also thought Scott Parker would pass forwards (not a big ask IMHO)

He was a complete professional for his entire time here. If you're going to criticise him at least pick valid things.

He always put England ahead of his clubs. His club games were merely a way of proving his form and fitness so he could be picked for England.

He wouldn't play for his club unless fully fit if there was an international tournament or game coming up incase he got injured, but he would risk himself half fit for England even if it meant he might miss a chunk of his clubs games.

This! bang on there Lucaaas. That's my biggest gripe with Owen. If he hadn't rushed into those England games (from injury) and get injured AGAIN, he'd have played far more for us.

Haha this would be my biggest wrong assumption, really didn't rate the lad at all when he turned up from Forest, got a record for bookings and looked out of his depth for a while but hes proved me wrong. Now it wouldn't worry me to see him start a game in goal.

Lets recap... Payed ****loads, played rarely, suddenly recovered from injury for England, when fit didnt commit to tackles for fear of injury.... Oh yeah... Did I mention having a pop at our fans who dare express discontent with his attitude?
I can only assume sir, that you are his agent.
Owen is so far up his own arse he can lick his own tonsils.

I'm no admirer of Owen but I will never forget that header he got against the Mackems!

So? He still played well and scored for Newcastle so that he would get picked for England. He never caused any off-field drama, nor any negative on-field drama. He did the job he was paid to do.
He even tried to pretend he cared about the club for a few years, but even then you still gave him **** for it. Dickheads like you had it in for him the moment he signed.

Come on guys, it's called opinions, we're entitled to them even if we don't always agree with the other person.

Let's have no keyboard warriors please.

King Kev would make us a "big club" once more <wah>

But I'm wrong about most things, so that was difficult. Thought Perch, Jonas, Colo, Enrique were utter crap til their second seasons, and I believed Hugo Viana and Albert Luque (amongst others) would come good... Oh dear!

Knew Souness was **** though, so brownie points please.

I thought Fat Sham would make us a hugely successful, Champions League winning team on his way towards becoming manager at either Barca or Real Madrid (or both at once). <whistle>
