Nothing at all, it was more the contradiction of a person listing their favourite bands then denouncing the genre from which those bands exist in the next line of the post. And yes while pop is an abbreviation of popular, in modern music it is a genre in it's own right and does not necessarily reflect on the current public opinion of the music in question.
i have a random taste... Oasis, Kasabian, The Beatles, Stone Roses some days.. then other days, Hermans Hermits, The Hollies, The Searchers, Manfred Mann etc..
Going to see bands live was ( and still is ) a great pleasure of mine. I remember going to see Killing Joke at Spring Street Theatre (I was about 15) , and there were kids, outside, openly sniffing glue, taking drugs and drinking. The gig itself was really powerful and full of energy. This was in the days when ,if you needed to "spike" your hair ( hair gel was rubbish back then), you had to find a product to do this. I chose Fairy Tablet Soap , and was wondering, half way through the set, why I was suddenly going blind .......... A bloody amazing night !
