Very good shot stopper. Problem being when crosses come over he's like a rabbit in the headlights! Having said that his last game for us(following an enforced sabbatical!) was probably the best I saw him play for us. Watford fans will now find out whether it was his or the training regimes fault....I'll be looking with interest! Ditto, and with recent goalkeeping experience, i think it might bring to light some fundamental problems at Watford!
One things for sure - it'll make our routine 6 points from Ipswich interesting for the forthcoming season
He's gone for 150k??? Astonishing. I thought £1m would have been decent! A change of scenery could be great for Loach. He has great potential but we could all feel he was going stagnant at Watford. He was making a lot of clangers, and the fans were really turning on him (something that griped me a lot last season). Yet before last season he was a great shot-stopper, but badly needing some work on his communication in terms of coming for crosses. In the 2011-12 you just saw his confidence nosedive. At Portman Road he could really achieve a lot.
150k is peanuts even if the guy had been shaky but then we cannot complain as a lot of fans wanted Loach out.
it is peanuts indeed...but yep, the poor bloke was hounded out, i hope he does well there, but not too well obviously
Don't think either of the UEFA U-21 championships where he was in the England squad helped his confidence. In 09 as expected, Joe Hart was first choice but he missed the final because he was stupid enough to get a second booking in the semi-final penalty shoot-out and a suspension. It was obvious Scott was lacking match practice as Germany won 4-0 with definitely 1, possibly 2 goals being his fault. Last year, he had played in all the qualifiers and all the friendlies leading up to the tournament and had more caps than the other 2 keepers in the squad combined, but Pearce chose Frank Fielding as first choice keeper in the tournament.
At one stage a couple of years ago there was speculation linking him to a 6m move - then 18 months ago a 3m move - now down to 150k? That is bad business in anybody's book regardless of any future add-ons. He doesn't look happy in that photo though does he? Do you think it is possible the transfer fee has been fiddled to avoid paying Lincoln their rightful sell-on fee? The club must have someone up their sleeve - nobody would sell without having a replacement lined up. Lastly, good luck to Scott - over the years we have had many class keepers and unfortunatly he may have been judged harshly against those standards.
Great to read your thoughts on this thread and of course I really hope that he will prove to be a decent signing. In many ways he is coming back home and his goal keeping mentor, Malcolm Webster, should iron out the creases! Looking forward to my trip to the Vic where you normally take the points!
has anyone read his interview on the OS...says some fans forced him out with abusive messages etc sent on the internet (more than just a bit of stick about making a mistake) Trouble with stuff like Twitter...people can hide behind a name and their keyboard sending personal abuse to somebody they wouldn't dare to face to face.
Can't even find his interview on the OS! I've seen some of the abuse he had to put up with on Twitter and have to say that the culprits must lead a sad life - have no idea why anyone sees the need to stoop as low as they did. Annoyingly, they've achieved their goal, and I can only wonder who their twisted minds will turn to next.
http://www.watfordfc.com/page/Features1/0,,10400~2858575,00.html Let's hope he doesn't get the abuse at Ipswich that he got here. Obviously it was a very small minority, but it must be demoralising, and for still a young lad, it does put extra pressure on you every game, thinking any tiny mistake will get a reaction! Good luck Scott, except for 2 games a season
