Fella in work was telling me that around the 1690's the Scotchies wanted to start their own Empire after seeing how rich the English had become due to the slave trade. The Scottish government invested quite a large ammount of money establishing a colony in Panama, but they had to give it up after a few years as they kept getting attacked by Spanish colonists and dying of Malaria. This of course forced the establishment of Great Britain, but think of what could have been if Scotland ruled the waves. Pasty gingers in the Americas? Scotland owning countries in Africa and Asia? Think of how good the national team would be now?
2 red cards medro. Timmy really doesn't like you I was on -87 but now I'm on -1. nearly in the green!
It wasn't the Spanish or the Malaria that done us in We were just too tight to pay for a return journey
Nobody does empires like the English/British. Apart from the Greeks. And the Romans. And the *****ls. And the Persians.
After that failed attempt we decided that it would be best to get the English, Welsh and Irish to do the donkey work.
Bankrupted Scotland, forcing us into political union with Nigel. The real conspiracy here was that William Paterson was the major reason why we Jocks pursued the scheme, which failed, then he started the Bank of England afterwards and was an advocate for the Act of Union 1707. Many independent analysts still argue that the apparent failure of the Darien scheme was to sow the seeds of the slight of hand which would thus enable those of that certain persuasion to plot the downfall of the great eagle.
We should have learned... When we tried to get our Colony at Darian onto the International scene....we couldn't get to the 2nd phase either
It is the English nation that brings Scots together in unity, without us you'd go back to hating and fight each other.
