So it seems Pardew's plan is to attack Man utd, put them under pressure and try and force them into making mistakes?

Hmmmm, even though i'm loving this optimism from Mr Pardew, i feel that he's being a bit too dreamy. The best defense in the league AND the most effective team in the league at counter attacking, and Pardew wants to put pressure on them and try and force mistakes?

So i assume Pardew will be playing 2 strikers? I'm sorry but Lovenkrands and Shola Ameobi upfront wouldnt frighten ****.

I think our best bet is to play our football in midfield with 5 midfielders, and not invite pressure on ourselves by committing too many men into attack, and being crushed by wave after wave of Utd counter attacking. We should play patiently, and not play our line too far up the pitch. I think Fergie will go for 4-3-3 with Rooney, Berbatov and Nani up top, and this is an extremely dangerous front 3.

I like the optimism going into this game, and i don't mean to sound like Mr Negative, but i think Pardew is setting us up for a bollocking here. I suppose the odds are against us, but if we really want a result, we shouldn't go all out attacking Man Utd.

Does anyone else agree with me?

    My line up -

    ---------------------Harper------------------------

    Simpson-----Taylor-------------Colo---------Enrique

    Barton------Guthrie------------Tiote---------Gutierrez

    ---------------------Ireland------------------------

    ---------------------Shola-------------------------

I look forward to it, and think we need to attack them, definitely worth a go.

Replace Taylor with Willo and I think that would be the best we could do.

  5. We need to pass well, and Taylor's passing is better than Willos, but you're entitled to your opinion,

Wouldnt approach any home game not targeting a win. A draw doesn't do us much good as we are pretty safe, so why not put on a show and go for it?

Also I love how in the space of one week and 4 articles, you've said Shola and Lover are ****, then pretty good, then should be praised for their efforts, and now back to ****. Make up your mind.

Oh and as far as formation porn goes:

    ---------------------Harper
    Simpson----Williamson----Colo----Enrique
    Barton---Guthrie---Tiote---Ireland*---Jonas
    --------------------Shola

*Raylor on the right, Barton in the middle if Ireland isnt 100%

  10. I never said we should target a draw, i said target a result, and the best way to do that against Man Utd isn't to rely on pressure forcing them into errors. It's best to pass the ball in midfield and play patient football, and the crowd better not ****ing getting on the teams back if the ball doesn't go forward enough, i hate it when we're just trying to hold on to the ball and for some reason the crowd have to see a problem with that. As if every time we have possession of the ball needs to be an attack.

You have a point, but then I sort of think, what IS the point?

It's going to be very tough with any setup. Going defensively would get us nothing as well, so perhaps an attacking approach gives us our best chance. We don't have the best attacking force in the world, so the team as a whole needs to play with an attacking style to force open the defence and score goals.

I'm honestly not fearing them too much though. They're rock solid at home, but their away record is average.

In fact, teams which have the same or a better away win record are:

    Arsenal
    Chelsea
    Man City
    Spurs
    Newcastle
    Blackpool

Liverpool, Everton and West brom are on four wins.

If we play well we have a good chance of getting a draw and there's a possibility of a win.

"Target a result" is football code for a draw, or a win if you're lucky though, being honest. I think pressuring them probably is the way, every top team they play will pass it around, looking for a way through and you need to be really clinical up front for this to work, and we arent are we?

The crowd arent stupid, yes they get annoyed when we dont attack teams we are dominating, or teams we should be beating, but know not to be stupid against the top teams as they will tear you apart on the counter attack.

Whats the point of a home game when you are not going to go for the win. Look at Wolves they went for it and got it, Blackpool nearly got it so Man Utd are not invincible they are beatable

  15. I never said we shouldn't be going for the win man!!!

But to win, you don't have to full force attack your opposition, we have a better chance if we play patient build up and try and keep Man utd quiet, instead of attacking them, only to put more pressure on ourselves when Man utd storm us with their counter attacks.

When doing this patient build up, you get a lot less chances in front of goal and therefore need a very clinical finisher up front though. And that is what we sorely lack.

Man Utd play patient build up, we will need to put them into immense pressure, make them tired and then hit them on the counter attack which is why I would play Ranger. I feel he could give Vidic a hard time.

  19. Well if we try and attack too much, we'll end up trying to out score man utd as they will counter and they will score. We should just have to have faith in our team. Miracles can happen.
