According to Mark Douglas of the Evening Chronicle, Newcastle have tabled a bid of £16m which is now being considered by FSG.

Also Mathieu Debuchy is set to be unveiled by Monday.

£16m is a bit much imo. Does this supposed sell on clause actually exist and if so is going to be £16m (less £4m) making a net spend of £12m? I would much sooner concentrate on signing Debuchy, Douglas and Anita first. I'd feel more comfortable with the level of depth throughout the squad then. Then i think we could go back in for Carroll. We know they want rid, we know they don't want him on the wage bill, I don't see anyone else stumping up £16m (or whatever the price is they want for him) Let the heat die down a bit and try and force them into accepting a lower value. I still don't think he'll fit back into the line-up but Pardew and co obviously have plans for him!

Might be wrong here but I thought we paid £17 million for Michael Owen.

I think it was £8m for Owen, Our record is £15m for Shearer.

Owen was definitely more than Shearer, Real Madrid signed Owen for £8m from Liverpool in 2004.

16m for Carroll is fantastic business. Supposedly we were offering 12-13m and they wanted 20m so it would appear we've gone halfway. I suspect 20m would be the absolute maximum we'd pay.

I wonder how this sell on clause actually works in the event he's sold back to US. Maybe they'll accept 16m from us, and ignore the sell on clause, if it even exists, where usually they'd ask for 20m from any other club as they'd have to give 5m back to us anyway.

I would imagine there is something there contractually that would render the clause no longer applicable.

apparently the offers for RVP are lower than £20m worth a cheeky bid? Him and Krul can make up and we can win the league <party>

<laugh><laugh> More chance of Ashley sacking Pardew and reinstating KK than RVP coming anywhere near the toon!! It didn't look to me like Tim has any intention of being his bud at any stage!

And just to show we really are second best in the delusion competition these days, a recent quote from a Liverpool supporter:

    benderoony says July 17, 2012 3:53pm
The only way i can let Andy go is for Rodgers to show some ambition and at least go after Van Persie. We can get Van persie and we can convince him to come to Pool and he would cost around 25 m, the sum which NUFC will have to cough up if they want Andy. We need a guy like Van persie to get back into the top 4. show some greatness LFC..go after the flying dutchman.

Liverpool have more chance of signing RVD than RVP.

The board are only considering a £16m bid, nothing has been placed. You are getting too far ahead of yourselves!
