If he accepted a significant pay cut to come back, would you respect him again and get behind him?

I think every intelligent Newcastle fan would get behind him, and support him if he returned, despite hating him or not, because booing or hating on your own players, would be a bit pathetic.

I've never really hated Carroll, never had the heart to do so. I hope he comes back, as long as it's not at the cost of Demba leaving.

Regardless of what some people think, selling him for 35m and buying him back for 30-40% of that price in an 18 month time scale, would be fantastic business for us.

I believe Carroll has always had Newcastle in his heart, and he spends a lot of time down here. He still loves the place.

I know some of you think "well **** him, he left so he obviously doesn't love Newcastle enough, and I don't believe him when he said he never wanted to leave".

But if he took a big pay cut to come to Newcastle, would that maybe in itself earn him a bit of respect from the Toon fans that don't like him?

I'm not saying it's going to "fool" anyone into loving him, but surely, if he'd take a big pay cut, he'd be entitled to a little respect?

Obviously scoring goals is the only way he'll make it up for some people, but taking the pay cut would show that he really does want to come back.

If Carroll was really a ****, he'd probably have rather opted for a move to a team like WHU or QPR, to keep his wages.

Regardless of whoever may come in i hope Ba and Cisse both stay. As for Carroll i think he would have to take a pay cut to return here permanently as i cant see us paying £80,000 a week. As for Carroll the player i would welcome him back. He is a good player, exciting, can intimidate and dominate any defence and is a geordie. Never wanted him to leave and despite all talk, rumours and speculation, none of us will ever know the truth about when he left although in truth i think the deal suited all parties.
If we get him back after effectively 1.5 seasons with Cisse, Cabaye and Ben Arfa as compensation then i'm not complaining.

Seem to remember seeing one somewhere. What a coincidence that another one should appear.

No. Nothing personal against AC but don't want to go back to "hoof it to the big lad up front football"....starting to like this "technical" stuff like passing and making space. :)

I would definatley 100% get behind him, As for the wages I would suggest 35K max for the first year to bring him back down to reality as he obviously was getting way too much at the bin dips and lets face it for **** all return. It could be the best thing to ever happen him. To make him aware that he needs to work extremely hard to get us back on side!!

That is also my concern IF he were to come back. Wouldn't want us to end up always looking for him with long balls. But would be great as extra depth to our attacking options in some games.

Sounds good to me Coyler. <ok> And then maybe give him 15 minutes on the naughty step while he considers his actions, back for an apology then all forgiven and forgotten.

    My problem is thus:

    1. The dozy git tried to send off Tim Krul with a stupid cheating dive. He then remonstrated with the ref for not getting the penalty. That is incredibly disrespectful to all the fans who cheered and supported him through all the lows til he buggered off.
Not only this, he was pretty much moaning all match, having hissy fits, and then through a strop down the tunnel.

    2. Of course he would take a wage cut, NOBODY would pay as much as Liverpool have for him, unless Citeh's owners get dementia. QPR, West Ham etc would never pay £80,000 a week for him, nevermind £15 mil + transfer fees! So him taking a cut to get out of his current nightmare is probably the least of his worries. So of course he wouldn't get any respect for this.

I really didn't hate him for leaving, especially considering what we made of it, but he seems like a step backwards, not forwards. His attitude seems to be disruptive to team morale and his play is not good enough for a 15 mil price fee, Shearer he ain't! I'd rather some more pace, and someone like a Defoe would be a much much better signing in my opinion.

If Carroll comes back, I won't be forced to clap or support him by anyone. I'm my own man and I believe he'd have to earn my support before I gave it.

I think the days of us spending £10-15m on a back-up forward are long gone and rightly so. This is why I don't want us to sign him as I get the feeling if we did, he would play the majority of games and we'd resort to lumping the ball up to him.

Premiership, League Cup, FA Cup, Europa League

plenty of opporunties for players, I don't think we'll see anyone spending too mcuh time on the bench

Carroll would be a great addition to the squad.

any team would be worried if this line-up turned up against them:

    Krul
    Debuchy-Saylor-Colo-Santon
    Cabaye-Tiote-Jonas
    Arfa-Cisse-Ba

with a bench of Carroll, Raylor, Marveaux, Perchinho, Harper
imagine the impact late game of Raylor & Carroll against physical dug-in sides, something we were kind of lacking last season was that last 20 minute battering ram against stubborn teams

I respect the lad anyway and would back anyone in a black and white shirt. Cracking player. No apology is required and he doesn't owe anyone here anything. He doesn't have to earn the supporters support just as Ba, Cisse, Cabaye, etc didn't. They all got our backing and so should he. Like any he'd have to do well to remain popular but he'd just be treat the same as any other. The only players I think require apologies is if someone like Bellamy wanted to come back. He made disparaging remarks about the club and fans (rich considering his off field antics here) The lad was sold by the club and the funds he generated have helped us massively. The transfer was just all part and parcel of football and I understand why Ashley wanted the cash. Its a hell of a lot of money, and way over what his actual value was.

All that said I'd be very surprised to see him rock up due to wages/fee and I'm not even convinced a bid has been lodged! Hopefully we have and he is on route but I'm not convinced. I do think Mike would jump at anything under 15m. Just purely from the business point of view it would be fantastic work.

Any player in a black and white shirt who visibly puts in a shift and scores goals will be respected regardless of who they are or what they have done previously.

AC is a geordie through and through and would absolutely jump at the chance of returning home to his hometown club, and I have no doubt that we would see this reflected in his performances on the pitch.

As for how we play with him in the team, I don't understand people's notion that we are just going to resort to route 1 footie and lumping the ball up to him. We didn't play like that the whole time when he was here last so why should that be the case next season ? Surely if we were going to start playing football like that then it would quite quickly start to piss off the creative players that we have in our team, like Cabaye, HBA, Marveaux, Jonas, Vukic etc, something which the manager will be vary wary of doing.

Carroll is as good as the next man with the ball at his feet, and scores a good number of goals that are not headers. It's a well known fact that we didn't score enough goals from set pieces last season, something which the manager has clearly stated and wants to address...hence the interest in Douglas. Having AC in our team gives us a massive threat at set pieces. Set pieces which will come about because of the creativity of our creative players.

Debuchy can put a decent ball in as well, better than Simmo from what I saw of him at the Euro's, and can play on the right wing as well, giving us options of putting Santon at RB, Jonas at LB and then Debucy and Marveaux on the wings if we wanna mix it up in some games and change things round.

Lets not forget the two signings that we have already made also. These two players are an unknown quantity but could prove to be just as good, if not better than Cabaye and Tiote.

But back to the AC. Yeah, if the deal is right for us, and makes the bin dippers look like bigger ****ers than they did for paying £35m in the first place then 'ave it !

I don't think it would take AC too long to get any doubters back on side. A goal against the mackems perhaps ?

What I don't understand is the people who say Carroll coming back means we're going to be playing constant hoofball.

Carroll is not one-dimensional, and he's more technical than others think.

We need to have more than a passing game to us, we need to be able to switch styles. Against a side like Wigan with a 5 man midfield or playing 3-4-3, we get over run in midfield.

And against a side that sits back, we'll just be passing back and forth, trying to find an opportunity for a long shot or a defensive mistake.

Having different plans will help us go forward IMO.

And Carroll would be more than a bench warmer. We can't play Cisse and Ba every game. Carroll would get 15+ starts next season, at the least, especially because of the ACoN.

Just an absolute fallicy to suggest it will result in us playing hoofball. I wonder what people watch sometimes. We went long to Ba plenty last year, does that mean he is suited to hoofball? The only time the lad wants the ball aerial is crosses. Otherwise he is much more effective in a passing game with balls knocked into chest, thigh, feet. he will give you the direct option and make space for others by putting himself about but its really secondary to his game. There are more than enough games to go round. Having all three would mean we have several different strings to our bow and make us a much more rounded unit.

Anything under £15m and its well worth doing, but I can't imagine they are dumb enough to loan him out, that really would be daft.
