The traffic jams start using them and the motorways start moving again. Of course that's only after they've sent home the police who've been called in to help the army because they haven't got enough soldiers to fill the positions they've been called in to fill by G4S because of their shortages despite us having brought in a load of immigration officers from America to help us fill the staff shortages at customs. But at least we're coming in under budget despite it costing twice what it was supposed to do.
Now - the latest nonsense is that retailers/manufacturers can be done (by Trading Standards!!!) for associating products with the Olympics..... by using such words as Olympics, games, gold, silver, bronze, summer....and on and on and on. What a sh1t-pile. E.g. - a Weymouth butcher got 'pulled' for putting in a window display of 5 sausages in 'rings'.
Some athletes have experienced a 4-hour+ journey from Heathrow to Stratford - despite the 'Games Lanes' - because the coach drivers didn't know their way through London....
Easy to see the Olympics are in Britain. Switch on the news and it's just full of people complaining about it!
I may be wrong, but it doesn't seem any olympic team are using Hull as a training base. That's a bit **** really. Even Cameroon are up in Aberdeen.
presumably they used Ryanair or Easyjet to get to Britain. By their definitions Aberdeen airport is near enough to be advertised as London Aberdeen.
That was actually quite easy. I put the tickets on the official resell site and they have been sold within 2 days. I get the money back minus the booking fees and the cost of sending the original tickets back through recorded delivery.
A mate of mine has been duped by the "Children's Promise". His son was born on Olympic Day and was promised to be part of the Olympic ceremonies. He (along with all the other parents) believed that his son would be part of the opening or closing ceremonies. Locog appear to have gone back on their promise and, instead of the 700 children being part of the ceremonies it will be 2500 local school children instead. Locog are now saying that the promise was only ever to take a prominent role in the torch relay, by standing on stage with the torch. Following complaints by parents Locog have offered the children a "sitting role" at the paralympic ceremony which, presumably involves them sitting in a seat. In addition, he has been offered 2 tickets to see an event at the paralympic games. As they are a family of 4 they asked for another 2, but would not be given them. They were told that they could buy another 2 but they would not be sat together. They also have to pay for travel and accommodation. I think my mate has suggested to Lord Coe that he sticks his Childrens Promise up his arse
Here's a new gem: Where Regent's Canal crosses the Olympics site - heading for the Limehouse Cut and the Lee link - the 'authorities' removed all the house-boat dwellers, who had low rents and worked in the area, for low wages. The powers-that-be wanted to 'tidy things up' by removing the boats. This they did and then, as the canal looked stark and empty, they placed fake boats in the water, so as to give it 'atmosphere'! ****wits....
Those involved in Athletics in the city pointed out to the Council years ago that they should try and get a team here but they were not very interested and when they finally did realise they should be doing something it was too late. I am really looking forward to the games, apart from athletics I am excited about the rowing, cycling and swimming though I will watch whatever team GB are competing in. I love sport and I really cannot understand anyone who does not have any interest in it whatsoever, and there are lots of people like that. I have a friend whose son has just got back from Afghanistan and has now got to work at the Olympics when he should have been sitting in the stadium with his family watching. The whole security thing is a shambles and should never have been left to a private company. The forces should have been involved from the start with involvement from the Reserves. I would rather trust the forces to protect the games then whoever the security company have employed having heard that some do not even speak English. I would like to see Daley Thompson be involved in the lighting of the flame as I think he was a fantastic athlete with a fantastic attitude and fun side to his nature, the Decathlon was brilliant to watch when he was competing.
You can be done for Olympic theming without having paid for a licence, but I think the "summer" ones are just people being pulled up for false descriptions because if you look outside it's clearly not summer.
You go in the bus lane. Asked about it on the QPR board and someone informed me that when the Olympic Lanes are in force the bus lanes are officially suspended. They haven't bothered to actually publicise that bit very widely though.
Ho-hum........ Ministers Slammed Over Olympics 'Chaos' MPs have hit out over the "predictable chaos" surrounding Olympic security - as the Government prepared to decide whether to deploy an extra 2,000 troops. Ministers are being urged to "get a grip" on both the Games' organisers, Locog, and security contractor G4S - which has been slammed over its failure to recruit enough security guards. Another 3,500 soldiers have already had to be drafted in after the beleaguered firm admitted it was not going to be able to provide the 10,400 guards it had promised, taking the full deployment to 17,000. But a further 2,000, are allegedly also being kept in reserve as a contingency in case there are further issues. A final decision on whether to officially put the extra troops on "notice to move" will reportedly be taken today - just eight days before the opening ceremony, according to a Home Office source. But the Department for Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS) has been accused in an MPs' report of lacking transparency and not knowing how much security the Games needs. Margaret Hodge, Public Accounts Committee chairwoman, said: "The chaos which has emerged over the security contract was predictable and undermines confidence in those responsible for managing the Games. "There is now a last minute scramble to make sure there will be enough security personnel on the ground. "In evidence to us before Christmas, all those concerned gave assurances that the contract could be met despite more than doubling the number of guards before the ink was dry on the original contract. "No credible explanation has been given for an astonishing 12-fold hike in management costs, from £10m to £125m, and G4S still has not been able to deliver. Now troops are having to be drafted in. "The Home Office needs to get a grip on Locog and G4S urgently. "The Department would win no medals for transparency. We still donât know just how many security guards will actually be delivered or whether G4S will face any penalty. "We will carry out a post-mortem in September." The potential further deployment will increase concerns about where soldiers are being housed for the duration of the Games and their living conditions. But the Secretary of State for Culture, Olympics, Media and Sport , Jeremy Hunt disputed the report's findings. "With just over a week to go we are on track to deliver a great Games on time and under budget," he said. "At the end of May there was £476m of contingency unallocated and I am confident that we will deliver the project for under £9bn. "We disagree with the Committeeâs assertion that the DCMS has lacked transparency. London 2012 has arguably been more transparent than any other public sector project. "For example, we have produced 16 financial updates to Parliament over the last four years." A Home Office spokesperson has insisted no extra troops were due to be deployed - while the DCMS insists the cost of G4S's failure will not be passed on to tax payers. http://uk.news.yahoo.com/ministers-slammed-over-olympics-chaos-031404654.html
The 'house boat dwellers' are actually floating pikeys and personally, I rather see them use torpedoes.
