Apparantly Simon Gillet has turned down a new contract offer at Doncaster because Portsmouth have offered him more money (see quote from Dean Saunders and reader comments). http://www.portsmouth.co.uk/sport/p...to-be-among-eight-pompey-triallists-1-4059700
I don't feel sorry for the club, but the fans, I know when we were locked out of BP how bad it was & we were throwing coins from the South Stand. It was almost as bad, but we survived. The problem I have with the whole Portsmouth thing is that they were in financial trouble at the start of last season & were still allowed to sign players, which I thought they were not allowed to do, & also these players were going there on big wages, wasn't it David Norris on reportedly 20K pw?
Taking their squad and 7-8 trialists to Spain for ten days is bloody ridiculous under the circumstances.
Only an idiot would say that the Pompey fans deserve all they get. Pompey not taking any of the 8 pro-players left as they want out. So who are Pompey taking on tour ?
The Juniors and trialists. Appleton sounded like a pissed off wife going to her mum's for the weekend though with his "I'm not happy about not having made any signings since I took over and having 8 players that we can't afford. They've been given their instructions for while I'm away, and I hope they've all gone by the time I get back" comment.
Portsmouth have been allowed to get away with it for too long, they should be liquidized, shame for the fans though.
Agreed. It's always a shame to see a Club go under, but when you have done it once, you should have learnt not to do it again time after time. They were stupid and therefore need punishing. Bad example to other Clubs who reckon they can also try and attempt to do the same.
It seems that Pompey have taken trialists Izale McLeod, Lloyd Sam and Brian Howard on their tour. I know that they're free agents, but signing those 3 wont exactly reduce their wage bill will it?? http://www1.skysports.com/football/news/11719/7904684/Mcleod-on-trial-with-Pompey
Its a joke nd a bad example to pther teams...the taxpayers are pretty much paying for this pile of ****
I would suggest that 50% of the football league and 100% of the Murdoch League are already doing exactly the same!!!!
It will since they're not allowing him to sign them until some of the other 10 originally contracted players are offloaded. (8 that turned up for training plus the 2 that are contracted and failed to show up)
