Ca anyone see Ashley selling Newcastle for £80 million or less, 'cause I certainly don't. Put a 1 in front of the 8 and he might consider it but still think he's turn it down.

Ha ha! It makes me laugh that I think some people would blame Ashley for that if they could, and also forget (or weren't born) when we sold a prodigal son last time and didn't get the most from it. The panic and hate has already begun on twitter 'were pretending to bid for players' 'everyone else is signing players' etc.

Regarding 'Arab' owners, like English owners, American owners or *****lian owners, there are good and bad. The Mansours have their heads screwed on and are investing in infrastructure, but that level of investment mixed with true commitment is so rare I doubt you'd see it twice in the same league.

Story's rubbish but if it were real I'd not be happy. The long term health of our club is looking superb as it is, we'd be taken for mugs with a sugar daddy in charge.

    Well put!

Even during our darker days I didn't really want a rich owner who can chuck millions at the club, effectively entering cheats into a real life football manager game. I've taken SO much satisfaction from our scouting team bringing in world class talent (and that's undeniable - Cabaye, Tiote, Cisse - all more than capable of doing it on the big stage) for relative pittance...We're not, never have been and never will be on the same level as the Real Madrids, Man Utds and Barcelonas and I'm fine with that...I love that our club is a plucky trier and if we do win a trophy, be it the Carling Cup or the Champions League - we'll have earned it, as fans, as a squad and as a football club!

As much as Citeh fans will have loved beating United to the title on the final day of the season, much like an Olympic athlete who uses performance enhancing drugs to break a world record and take the Gold - it would've been so much sweeter doing it from the ground up!

I read somewhere our policy on buyers is that serious buyers would have to commit to buying a box at St James' for 5 years. Typical Ashley! keep an eye at who's in the rich seats, I guess.

True, but we've all said for a long time - if Ashley's only goal is running a successful business, as long as it coincides with a successful club, then that's fine...If making potential buyers commit long term instead of making a rash compulsive buy then that's far better for us in the long term!

Notts County play in black and white and are called magpies too, that's enough for lazy / confused journalists, particularly 3000 miles away

oh and i think Ashley is one of the best owners in the league, hands down. we'd be lucky to replace him with anything better. Mind you Ive been saying that for a while

This is my opinion also. When the only way you can meet the UEFA financial rules, is essentially to launder 400 million from your own company in sponsorship, surely this signifies instability with no long term financial viability?

That depends on how long you hold your sugar daddy's attention and how much balls the FFP audotors have.

The FFP auditors shoudl treat anything above fair market value for the stadium rights (£50M at a push) as a direct subsidy and, once the rules have fully kicked in, exclude Man City from european competition. Anyone think they'll do this ?

As for how long the blue half of Manchester will be the most attractive belly dancer in town, depends entirely upon the tastes of the owners

I don't really care about this sort of stuff because we have no say in it. I'm only bothered about events on the pitch. Its just a business now with lip service paid to the community aspect. What will be will be and I'll just support whichever 11 happen to representing us.

This smells badly of bullshit though.

    An empty nothing club?

Is that how you describe the Premier League Champions?

Not a hope, with the bribes that fly around UEFA and FIFA, clearly Man City's situation will be overlooked. But that is part and parcel of football these days. A couple of utterly bent organisations run it, and we pay the price for doing things properly. One day, the time of the profitable club will come again. Until that time, I just hope we continue on the same path, not necessarily with Ashley, but someone of his ilk.

The one beacon of hope with FFP is the very dislikable Michel Platini. Its his baby and he is very keen to see stringent rules in place. He hates England and he hates the moeny in our game. So he may take a very keen interest in ensuring that CIteh don't just ride roughshod over his rules.
