Williamson is a good defender, he's just not as good as Taylor or Coloccini.

 

Williamson is decent cover and is a prem league defender, just not a top half prem defender IMO, same for Simpson.

If we can iron out these weaknesses this season theres no reason why we cant be somewhere between 3rd and 6th again this season, and I mean that.

As far as Debuchy is concerned I can't see it happening now, its all dragged out too long and is far too public, this is not how we do our business these days and I can't imagine us having much wiggle room in the price we offer.

I reckon we will end up with Nathaniel Clyne or someone completely unexpected.

I still think it would be more wise to bring in a left back and play Santon at RB, but only time will tell.

P.s Clyne is comfortable playing both RB & LB.

 

There is a lot of hate around for Iron Mike Williamson at the moment. He is not a bad player, he has done a job for us on many occasions - he is just guilty of some bad games (remember Colo a few years back?). He is certainly far from the worst CB we have ever had. He lost confidence a bit in the middle of the season and wasn't at his best and that seems to be all people remember, not the great games he had.

We did win seven on the trot last season with him in the team, he can't be that bad!

Surley Wed still be able to sign him anytime we wanted .. He'd just have to physically stay in Holland until august 31st... I personally think if we were gna sign this guy it would have been done by now. He's been linked with PSG too I think so could just be waiting to get the best deal he can

 

Happy with Willo as 4th choice centre back. He is a 100% and seems to be liked within the group. He will never be a world beater but he is more than capable of doing a decent job against the poorer sides in the league, cup games and europa games (I love mentioning we're in europe aggain!)

Today's announcement is that there is no announcement.

 

We've been about to sign Debuchy according SSN since before the Euros so I wouldn't put too much credence in their made up reports. It does seem likely it'll happen at some stage. I feel sorry for Santon because this will result in him either playing out of position for the forseeable or worse still, departing! I think he'll be better than Debuchy in the long term.

 

If we've got to have one or the other, we may as well just keep Santon. He's done nothing wrong and seems to fit in well.

 

Debuchy is apparently expected to sign within the next 48 hours, its being reported all over now and Sky, although not foolproof, rarely make these kinds of statements without them being true. I think we've got him! Really didn't expect it at all.

Santon will most likely continue to play on the left side since we still lack a better option and I can't see us buying Debuchy AND a new LB.

Chuffed with Debuchy if he signs but I still reckon a LB made more sense. But I'm sure theres a plan in place.

I know many of you will disagree. But Santon IS a left-back. Some Right footed players can play that position (Lahm....considered a great left-back or right-back?) and Santon is one of them. Our defence will be better with Debuchy, despite the fact Simpson did well last season. Santon-----Saylor----Colo-----Debuchy.....looks good to me.
