As the title suggests who were the three players at Saints who you liked even though they may not have been the best players we ever had. For me it would have to be Francis Benali, Nick Holmes and Jim Steele.
As I'm not a long-tenured fan my three are all recent, excluding current players - Marian Pahars, Michael Svensson and Antti Niemi.
Tiss is going to have to be my all-time favourite as well as being the best. He gave me more pleasure than any man has a right to Most football fans tend to like the battlers, so you have to add the likes of Benali. When I was a kid I was in Terry Paine's fan club so him I guess. Impossible task really, so many great names and characters (Golac for example, rarely mentioned).
Neil Maddison, Nicky Banger, Glenn Cockrill. Were my favorites whilst growing up. I remember saints beating liverpool 2-1 with banger coming on as a sub scoring the winner, He did it in a few games in a row if i remember correctly.
I got to be friends with John Burridge whilst he was here. Fantastic character, always something going on when he was around. I wouldn't say he was crazy, just tended to see things a bit different from everyone else. He really wasn't a bad goalkeeper either. I often took shots at him on hard surfaces and he would throw himself around as if he was on grass.
'Docker' Dave Walker.. John Macgrath's accomplice at the back Ivan Golac.. If ever a full back was a marauder.. Nick Holmes.. Did he ever have bad game?
no lallana's?! he may be very recent, but he played 2 seasons in a league which he was much to good for, in my eyes a real saint. other than that always was a big Beattie fan. And ofcourse Le Tiss!
Loved papa waigo (balotelli crazy, but nicer) Jason Dodd is a club legend and good character to still have at the club. Jimmy Case as my tough guy, though liked Van Gobbel too
