Discussing this morning on Sky is the effect of the new manager at Liverpool. Described how Rodgers realised with injury problems during his playing career that coaching was the future for him. So took the courses and learnt about the psychology of sport as well as the usual training techniques. He doesn't think that a big target man like Carroll is what he needs for his passing style of play which was successful at Swansea. Sky said Carroll may suit West Ham better (hoof ball anyone?). Suarez said to be excited about new style planned for Liverpool. Sound familiar?
Rodgers has been massively over-hyped. Swansea were on an upward trajectory and playing an attractive style of football well before he arrived. I think people need to remember it wasn't that long ago he was getting sacked at Watford and Reading. If I were a Liverpool fan, the jury would be out in a big way.
Slight point of order, but he wasn't sacked by Watford. Although I too think he must be thanking his lucky stars that he's ended up at Liverpool while David Moyes is still trapped at Everton.
This is true, but he's still done a hell of a job there, and it's encouraging to see a big club give a down-to-earth guy like Rodgers a chance (and let's face it, he can't do much worse than the last few they've had).
Not sure Moyes is trapped. He could leave, but he'd never be so appreciated as he is at Everton. Besides, some managers are best suited to getting their teams to overachieve, without actually winning anything, or escaping relegation with a poor team. Moyes might be best in that category. Unless there are significant changes in investment and ambition, I think he might be at Everton for keeps. Rodgers is a very capable coach, and he's going to stand or fall on his own style.
I'd still like to see Moyes given a chance somewhere he has real money to spend, and think it's a traversty that he hasn't been given a big job sooner.
I hope he does well and I am always happy to see someone new get a good Premier League job other than one of the same old names or someone parachuted in from abroad. Although I was more than happy to see Kenny take Liverpool sharply downhill, I think it makes Swansea more likely to struggle which is probably good news as far as Saints are concerned.
I'd be amazed if he's not already been tapped up numerous times over the last few seasons. My guess is he's just happy at Everton.
I think that Moyes is happy where he is........The Everton fans respect him and rarely berate him for a bad decision or whatever. Also he seems to be dedicated to Everton and has so far shown outstanding loyalty, which as we know is rare! The club survives on the resources it has and doesn't seem to over spend, nor pay extortionate wages seemingly. Pretty well living with in it's means. A well run club perhaps..........
I think this is unfair. Rodgers has been brave enough to do things his way at each club he has managed. It worked a treat at Swansea because his style matched what was there.. Don't know why it wasn't right for Reading, but I know the Watford fans just don't want to play that way and didn't like it.. watch out Zola. He was the perfect fit for Swansea, carrying on the job that Martinez started. You can name countless managers who do a great job at one club, but not so good at another. Personally, I love his ethos on how football should be played and IF given time at Liverpool, he'll do a great job there. A year may not be enough time, they must be patient as he re-directs that club. If I were a Liverpool fan, I'd be delighted
