Don't think there's a trick to producing really good goalkeepers, there jut aren't many around.

Bevan & flahavan are the only ones in the last 20 years I can think of who have performed consistently in the football league, but only the lower reaches.

What ever happened to young Grainger he showed a lot of promise at one time or other. Especially in his very young days when he played for Bassett comets.

Michael Poke is the only one I can think of that has made it in league football that started at Saints. One could argue we have also struggled for centre backs in recent times, aside from Olly Lancashire, Mike Williams and Gary Monk...

Keepers are anxious, paranoid and antisocial as all their friends turn their backs on them. You have to be odd to want to be one and you also have to be a fat bastard apparently.

We have produced a few 'Good' goalies - if good means players making a decent career out the game - Daryl Flahavan most notably in recent years. I'll always consider Tim Flowers as a Saints product, as he arrived as a 19 year old and learnt his trade at the Dell.

Maybe in the future we'll be in a comfortable position to expose these youngster's to the game from the get-go. Not right now tho - Just so difficult to do isn't it?!

saints have struggled for good coaches at academy level for goal keepers since kieth grainger left ,they now employ vince bartram who they got from pompey (not that great so the rumours say) they have just got a new coach in for the youngsters in Ryan Flood (great coach full of enthusiasm and encouragement) he coached my lad for a while and got the best out of him out of any coach he has had (he has played for 3 acadamy clubs ).Every club is struggling for young goalkeepers at the moment as hight is now a major factor in their criteria .
