I konw rvp may well leave but i believe at least in the short term it will be impossible to replace him in the short term. As a consequence i think we will need two signings in midfield to replace him one being a midfield enforcer and one being a creative midfielder. On the striker front we really cant do much more and the team will have to dig in and make a collective effort to compensate for his loss. Ideally i would love lucas moura but hes way over our budget so was thinking of someone like eriksen and possibly yann m'vila.

As you may have read in one or two other threads, I agree with you on the creative/attacking midfielder.

As far as the "enforcer" goes, I know views aredivided here, but I really believe that an out and out full time defensive midfielder is something top teams cannot afford. We need all three to be able to defend and attack, in most situations. I would like a midfielder that had an eye for goal with a good shot and was large enough to play striker if we had a mini-injury crisis.

So, maybe Matias Suarez, Toni Kroos (no chance I know), Ivan Rakitic, Hernanes, Javier Pastore (no chance again), Erik Lamela.

Should give you an idea of what I have in mind.

I disagree, I think an out and out destructive player is what we need and is present at a lot of top teams. I believe if Fletcher had been fit last season then Utd would have won the title.

I'm also undecided on the effectiveness of a midfield enforcer but from the Rvp money if we can afford one why not. We may also have some money left over to buy a low profile striker like joselu.

I would try and get Lasanna Diarra back from Real Madrid-thats of course providing he didn't totally burn his bridges with the club

I don't mind a midfielder who can defend, but any midfielder we get has to be able to play coming forward as well. We will not be able to play the ball on the ground coming forward, if we get a DM who can't contribute to that.

Lets put it another way. I think any attacking midfielder we get needs to defend better than Paul Scholes and any defensive midfielder needs to attack better than Scott Parker.

As long as they can do that, you can call them anything you like.

that would be ideal of course but how many midfielders of such quality are avaiblable these days...very few and those that are quality would in all probability be beyond our resources

Maybe, I think that is the role Wenger has in mind for Ox - we will see.

We are screaming for an attacking/creative midfielder, Jack is obviously not going to start the season which leaves Arteta as the only truly creative midfielder. This is top priority for me. Plus we need a great signing as so far the jury is out over Giroud and Podolski.

Why is Jack obviously not going to start the new season and why is the jury out over Podolski & Giroud ?

Because if Jack was anywhere near fit, it would be all over the club website. Can you really assume that Podolski and Giroud will fit straight into the PL, I hope that they do, but Podolski didn't look all that at the Euros, and Giroud looks so similar to Jeffers, and look how that turned out.

Arshavin!! After all this time might be nice to give him a run in his ideal position. Just Saying Euros proved he can still do it.

I think it is best to wait for any news about Jack until everyone returns this week.I have made no assumptions about Podolski & Giroud but i do find your comparison of Giroud & Jeffers strange

Must disagree with you on this argument Balhamgooner as similarities in style barely have any bearing on quality. Time and time again do we hear about footballers termed as the new Henry based on their style but no where near him in terms of quality. Giroud will surprise many IMO.

I was thinking this the other day, he could do an excellent job as our DM.

Really Flamini's excellent season was a bit unexpected, or it could have easily been Diarra securing a spot. He also played well for RM but they have a lot of great choice in there.

Agree to an extent, but if RVP leaves, then we are left with 2 forwards who have no experience (Giroud and Pod) in the PL plus Chamakh and Park. This is a massive risk, so I think if RVP leaves, we should either go in the market for yet another forward with real quality and hope that between them, the three new forwards can somehow adapt and get the needed goals or look around the PL for a forward. So IMO, if RVP leaves we do need another forward and it's more important than a midfielder.

how about a striker like joselu who we have been linked with. I think he will settle for a bit part roll and seems decent. He'll won't even cost that much leaving enough cash left over for a midfielder

Wilshere will be fit and ready for the start of the season, I don't know why people think otherwise. He has been training for weeks now to get himself fit for pre-season training.

    Giroud = Jeffers? LOL!

We do need another striker and Joselu would cost 10 mil, which is expensive, but possibly worth it because he's young.
