They raided into England as far south as Darby for hundreds of years. By raided I mean raped, pillaged and stole everything, they could get their hands on. All this was before the highland clearances. I also remember what they did to the old Wembley in the 70's. I as always will be supporting anybody but the jock.
I'd like to see that although it looks like it may be a while before it's broadcast again,I'm reading Neil Oliver's History of Scotland at the minute,an excellent read for those with an interest.
The highland clearances came after hundreds of years of far worse crimes against humanity in Scotland than you describe by the Scottish in England.Have a look at the history, have a look at the present,we didn't try to get as far as halfway down the spine of the country,we raped, murdered and pillaged the whole of it,even bribing them into civil wars so we didn't need to do it ourselves. We English, for the vast majority of history commited a vast amount more on them than they did to us.
History can only be truly viewed by considering events in context. Batting about nonsense about who started it or who was worse is only of value if it's used to stop it happening again. It's positively dangerous to use it to justify bigotry. It's why Liz shook hands with a former terrorist. There's no getting away from the fact he's miserable and seems to lack personality. I reckon it's asking a bit much to add that to his range of skills as well as being the first Brit in living memory to get there.
Whitehurst, I humbly apologise for everything done by the English over 300 years ago to the Scots. If their leaders could be bribed that's not our fault. As for the present, they are overrepresented in the Uk parliament, (along with the Welsh and Northern Irish) receive more in subsidies than the English. I don't hate the Italians for the Roman invasion of England or the French for the Norman invasion or the Germans for trying it. They need to get over it. History is just that history. Here's hoping they vote for full independence.
No need for apology, not your fault. As for independence,I don't think they'll vote for it. I hope that they can be somehow given total political independence whilst remaining part of Britain. Will be difficult to implement though.
Murray is only British when it suits him and that is only during the Wimbledon fortnight. The rest of the time he denies being British and insists he is a Scot. Cannot stand the man and I hope that Federer rogers him.
They will have a cop out choice, a little bit more independence without having to fund it. We need about 2 million English people to move to Scotland just in time to vote, vote for full independence, then watch Alex Salmon **** himself. All four countries should have a vote, only one question do you want the country you live in to be independent, if a majority in anyone country vote yes, they go it alone. When Major was the PM he was against Scottish independence, because he thought it would lead to, the English wanting to leave the Union. The only political party who would admit ( in private)to dissolving the Union would probably be Sinn Fein.
Im with Micky on this one The only good thing about him getting to the final is if he gets stuffed and humiliated
I hate Tennis but hope Murray loses after hearing some pompous prick on the news saying the whole nation will be behind Murray .. The only good thing linked to Tennis is the famous Fred Perry T-Shirts
I've come abit late into this thread, anyway, congratulations to Murray to getting to the final, hopefully he can win his first ever Major, despite him being the best British tennis player I don't really follow him to be honest, my favourite tennis player is a German female tennis player called Sabine Lisicki who I follow regularly, I followed her when she was lowly ranked because I liked how she played and now she's in the top 20 and she even knocked Sharapova out of this years Wimbledon, I would of liked her to get to the semis or further but she'll come back stronger
MARRAY WINS WIMBLEDON ON SATURDAY NIGHT. Yorkshire lad Jonathan Marray from Sheffield partnered by Dane Frederik Nielsen won the mens doubles Final @ Wimbledon last night by 3 sets to 2. They were a wild card pair who have beaten 3 of the best double pairings incl. the favs along the way. As rank outsiders this has to be even greater than IF Andy Murray beats Federer today. Out of the previous 15 matches Murray has 8 wins to Federers 7 so far. www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/tennis
Actually my glass was raised to Jonathan Marray after last nights Mens Doubles Final @ Wimbledon. Well done Fantastic match and tournament by you both. www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/tennis
Well done to the lad last night winning, the only Scot I'm supporting today is Paul di Resta at Silverstone. Shame Murrays brother couldn't stand in for him today, he's actually a nice fella unlike his bro
Good luck to Paul di Resta at Silverstone in the British GP today, a nice lad who goes to show that not all Scots are miserable gonks like Murray. Starting in p10 but has half a chance given the inclement weather conditions forecast in the race.
Don't really watch tennis but good luck, still puzzled how we don't have someone from ENGLAND and everyone else is an opponent, never look at Murray and Hemman as one of our own
