"This is an update for the fans about my current situation. I have kept quiet all this time out of respect and loyalty for the club and as agreed with Mr. Gazidis and Mr. Wenger, but since there is so much speculation in the media, I think it is fair for you guys to know what’s really going on at the moment.

As announced earlier this year I had a meeting with the Boss and Mr. Gazidis after the season. This was a meeting about the club’s future strategy and their policy. Financial terms or a contract have not been discussed, since that is not my priority at all.

I personally have had a great season but my goal has been to win trophies with the team and to bring the club back to its glory days. Out of my huge respect for Mr. Wenger, the players and the fans I don’t want to go into any details, but unfortunately in this meeting it has again become clear to me that we in many aspects disagree on the way Arsenal FC should move forward.

I’ve thought long and hard about it, but I have decided not to extend my contract. You guys, the fans, have of course the right to disagree with my view and decision and I will always respect your opinions.

I love the club and the fans, no matter what happens. I have grown up and became a man during my time with Arsenal FC. Everybody at the club and the fans have always supported me over the years and I have always given my all (and more) on and off the pitch. I am very proud of being part of this fantastic club for the last 8 years. As soon as Mr. Gazidis is back from his 2-week holiday in America further meetings will follow and I will update you if and when there are more developments.

    Robin van Persie"

Not his biggest fan after the whole Krul thing, but its so refreshing to see a player coming out and saying exactly how he feels and what his plans are, it shows real respect for the club and its fans to do something like this and its a credit to the man himself.

Probably more about ambition than money I would imagine, the extra money would just be a handsome bonus, I reckon in order to keep RVP Arsenal would match the wages, but he wants to win trophies, so going to City would be a huge win/win for him.

Seems like a genuine guy to me. Common sense and intelligence and real affection for the Club, manager and the fans. Looks as if it's the clubs prospects that are delaying him signing rather than money.

Arsenal haven't improved for years and without his goals last year would have been mid table. For his previous loyalty he deseves better.

I'm sure he will ask for a tiny 280k a week and give at least 200k of that to a rape victims' charity.

Heard it mentioned £225 k a week, also Michael Vaughan has said on twitter that Van Persie will sign for Man City next week, think the club knew it was inevitable for a while, that's why they signed 2 strikers

Typical of the modern player for me. Its the "I don't want **** from the fans" culture for me. Everyone has their view on Arsenals policies. Funny thing is the players (RVP included) knew what these policies were when they signed. It only seems to have become a problem since Citeh stuck 250K a week under his nose and bought the title. Funny that.

Yeah I think this is respectful to the Arsenal fans, but has to be taken with a pinch of salt.

Loyalty isn't just until you think the club should be run differently ... look at Enrique's "the club will never challenge in the top 6 again" comment - who are the players to make the strategic decisions? Why do they think they know better? Surely he understands the limitations of the club financially - so what's wrong with a sensible policy?

I'd be interested to see where he goes and what his contract is after this...

Any footballer can write a letter claiming to want trophies and not money.

Fair enough if he actually does, I just have a feeling he really doesnt.

It also seems like a bit of a coincidence that after an injury plagued 8 odd years with Arsenal, after his first (I might be wrong) fully fit season of banging in goals he suddenly disagrees with the 'direction' of his employers.

Well, what is the worst interpretation that can be put on this:

He isn't particularly loyal, he is moving both to get a rise and win trophies and that he thinks it is worth his time and trouble to say somethig nice to the fans so that mutaul recriminations are kept to a minimum ?

Ok, let's go with that interpretation. Still a fairly decent gesture.

Think he might get a shock at his new club when he has to fight for his place. Could see him going to Man City and failing.
