One issue I have is why so many are blaming Wenger here. Seems clear from RVPs statement that it's the board he's at loggerheads with. He, like every other player who's left us, seem to hold Arsene in incredibly high regard.
The club have shown ambition by signing Pod and Giroud early. RVP just wants to go. Anyone who thinks it isn't about the money is naive. Unless we get well over £20M and the money is given to buy players, let him wind down his contract in the reserves. He can not be captain this season and should not even make the team.
Oh I dunno. I might drag him out for League Cup games. Let him win one of these fecking trophy things he's so keen on and rest our main strikers!
I am far from naive. This has nothing to do with money. Thats just a cheap shot from fans who can't use their brain in my opinion - no offence.
In your opinion. What more can the club do to show ambition? We have signed 2 quality players already and are looking at others. If RVP had any loyalty or the love for the club that he professes to having, then the way to make us sucessful would be to re-sign and help us win these trophies. Or he can declare that he is leaving and wait for the big money offers that he is bound to get at the detriment of the club that has supported him throughout his injury plagued career.
Its both if he leaves us for any other big club (Real/Barca/Bayern/City/Chelsea/Utd) he will get both a better shot at titles and money than we can provide. It is a sad reality we are in but it is a reality none the less. Its a combination of bad managment / bad board managment and mostly the rise of the super rich Daddy clubs (bayern/UTD excepted).
Bullshine. We signed 2 strikers so quickly because we knew there was a strong possibility that RVP would go. If we can sign these 2 so quickly why is it taking so long to sign anyone else ? These 2 signings were the worst kept secrets as well, we are not even being linked to anyone else. We spent c£25m on 2 players, this is what we spend, roughly, every season anyway, so this shows no more ambition than any other season - and we all know how those seasons have gone. We are not showing any ambition at the moment.
You have a point Mr Head. It is not showing ambition if you do not put into place all that which gets you to achieve your ambitions. There are gaps in the squad which need to be addressed. Podolski and Giroud while very welcome additions amount to nothing more than patchwork especially if RvP leaves. Scattered, uncoordinated patchwork do not amount to the making of a quilt. No big picture, no big prize.
Pro-Arsenal Norwich fan in peace. Several points occur to me. (1) RVP's monetary value to Arsenal this coming season almost certainly outweighs any transfer fee he will bring, if for no other reason than that your chances of progressing further in the knock-out stages of the Champions League, and retaining a top four spot in the Premier League will be greater with RVP than without him; (2) your chances of winning one of the domestic Cup competitions this year will be greater if he stays than if he goes; (3) having him playing alongside Podolski and Giroud will help them bed into the team and reduce pressure on them, which will otherwise be great; (4) RVP's giving notice now that he doesn't intend to sign a new contract, usefully extends the time available to adjust to being without him; (5) if he wasn't prepared to see out his contract he would surely have put in a transfer request (of course he may do so still); there's no reason to suppose he won't give his all until he goes; (6) as in politics, a year (or even 6 months) is a long time in football; despite his stated misgivings about the club's "ambition", the Arsenal grass might look far greener to him then than it does right now; (7) there was no need for him to offer any explanation for his decision, and his doing so gives a hollow ring to his avowed respect for Arsene Wenger; he has diminished himself by doing so; (8) if RVP stays at Arsenal for another year, plays well and scores goals, why would any serious Arsenal fan give him stick?
He may not speak for you but if you've looked at various blogs, listened to the radio or even looked at Twitter today i think it's fair to say many Arsenal fans are less than impressed with RVP.It doesn't make those fans right but the're just expressing their opinion
Yes I do buying Pod and Girurd would suggest that they are planning to be more proactive in the market, evidently not by what they told RVP. You are being naive if you think its just the players fault, previous players have all complained about the same issue and the facts speak for itself, how many trophies have we won in the last 6 years? this is unacceptable for a club like Arsenal and our lack of focus when it comes to strengthening our squad suggests to me that they are showing a lack of ambition. Gazids even once said that he would deem Arsenal season a success if they stay in the top four. Just staying in the top four will win you nothing you have to be up their challenging for titles.
There have been plenty of times in Arsenal's 125 year history when they have gone more than 6 years without a trophy
Very good statement, this highlights the problem perfectly and some fans are quick to call us naive but fail to look at the bigger picture. We have multiple areas that need strengthening these two players are welcome additions but if they were brought in to replace RVP then this is another step backwards. I like Arteta a lot but does anyone seriously think that he is a step up from Fabregas? we are getting weaker every season and our replacements are often not as good as the players leaving, this shows a distinct lack of ambition.
I dont dispute that, but at those times the players did not have nearly as much power as they have now, as I mentioned previously Gazids has said that success would be staying in the top four, in this case we will be many years without a trophy and that is worrying. My point is that we don't even seem concerned by the lack of us challenging for trophies which clearly shows a lack of ambition.
