I have mixed emotions about RVP's decision...at first I thought I was grateful for his decision to tell us so early rather than have a repeat of the Cesc transfer last year However like Nasri and some others feel he owes the club more than this. We stood by him through his poor disciplinary record and even more horrific injury record...basically we only got 1.5 seasons of consistent RVP in 8 years...not amazing Now I don't doubt the guy has ambitions but why not sign a new contract to ensure the club get compensated..i.e. sign a 2 year deal with the agreement if we haven't improved this season or next he's allowed to leave He can't stay now...how can you start a season with a captain that doesn't want to be there! How can his teammates feel any comradery with him when he's got half an eye on the exit Podolski and Grioud 'seem' decent but who knows, I think another class signing is recommended but perhaps not absolute necessary Our club has been built up by Wenger only to be dismantled season after season...we're a selling club og that there is no question
Like i said on a previous thread i think giroud will suprise many next year though i do feel our spending isn't over. Agree rvp can't stay for all the reasons you have mentioned in addition to the fact that the fans will be on his back during matches.
RVP made it unacceptable for Arsenal to keep him. If the club is ready to swallow it and sell him to ManCity, what can we say. Big club, huh? If I were Wenger I would make my own move that this time would make unacceptable it for Van Persie to stay and put it on the market abroad. Let him go whenever he wants - France, Italy, Spain (how about Malaga, Robin?)
United fan in peace. I think RVP has come out with his statement to minimise the backlash from fans. Yes it does allow the club to make a decision on the way forward early on in the transfer window, but I think it's cut a good portion off his potential transfer value. Personally I think the best option would've been to tell the club of his decision but to keep it private so that you guys could get as high a fee as possible for him. I can't see the Italian clubs bidding realistic figures for him, they know they have your club over a barrel. Say they bid 10mil or 15 mil for him, what do you do? They know Arsenal want a much higher fee for him, but no matter what they offer City will be able to beat their price. And no doubt you'd rather sell him to a foreign club, so they are in the best position. I can see the Italian clubs offering 10-15 mil for him, and City offering a more realistic 20-25mil. Do you think the Italian offers will be accepted? And do you think RVP would move to another English club? (He's nothing like Nasri, but if City are the only club making realistic offers he may not have much choice but to go there I guess...)
That's kind of my point... RVP can leave ofcourse, you can't force anyone to stay and he is clearly our best player by a long shot but he's really not helped the club. His statement reduces and transfer fee and next year we'll get nothing...for all the time we've invested in making him this a good a player the club deserves so much more He wants to leave after his only full season at the club and first as captain
I dont think its any issue whether he goes to a foreign club or not. Nasri didnt and it doesnt bother us. I would rather he went to the club thats gonna pay the most. Tbh , i dont think he will even play much for Man City. Certainly not as much as when he played every week for us and it kept him sharp. I recon they would rotate their strikers , so it doesnt make a big difference if it is RVP facing us or Balotelli or Dzeko or Silva. As long as we get the most moolah and it is spent on the right replacements.
This is not about RVP now, this is about other Arsenal players who think they can hold the club to ransom. RVP was definitely encouraged by Nasri story. Now who is next? If club could punish RVP by not letting him to move on his own terms ( i.e. to ManCity), the others would think twice. We have to stop the rot.
I agree with this entirely. RVP won't make City any better than they currently are. Who will they drop for RVP ? All their strikers score goals so, what does it matter if he goes there ? Lets get the most money for him as we can.
Too many people here are grabbing the wrong end of the stick. The problem is NOT Nasri or RVP, the problem is the bloody board and their dumbass transfer policy that has steadily eroded the quality at the club while we spend good wages on mediocre players.
We need a bidding war for him. One of the reasons we got the money did for Nasri, was because more than one club was interested. So lets hope that more clubs that just City are interested in RVP.
I agree that Arsenal should decide where RVP now goes, its not like your a club that needs the money. I understand wanting to get a decent price, but a 5 million swing in the transfer price isnt going to break the bank for you guys. As a neutral I would be dissapointed not see RVP play in the premier league, on his day he is absolute class. However, I cant see him playing week in week out for Man City and for me a wiser move would be to Man U or abroad. I feel for you guys though because you have stuck by him when he has been unable to play or hasn't been great and as one of you said above, a couple of season out of eight isn't great!
I agree it'll be difficult for him to be around the club having disrespected everything the club is about, but I think we all know that it's January when the silly money gets thrown around and desperate clubs pay inflated fees, so do we take say £20m now or stand firm get 20 games out of him and then offload him for close to the £20m anyway ? I guess the question is what impact will his presence have ?
I don't see how a bid of 10-15million will help us in any shape or form? By keeping a player on a 80k a week contract who is supposedly worth ~200k a week, we are already making a saving of 120k a week, or 6 million in that one year. Say this knocks the prices down to ~4-9 million. Sponsorships and shirt sales if he stays will still be relatively high (more overseas than in England but oh well), leading to, lets say a much reduced 500k (not sure about these figures, but I'm putting it on the low side considering that many fans will feel negativity towards him). This reduces the fee's true value to ~3.5-8.5 million. Plus the fact that we won't have to give him this reported 5 million signing on bonus fee, we could be down to ~3.5 million pounds true value. Are you seriously telling me that the goals that he WILL score next season, that may help us get in the Champs League, will not be worth this amount of money. Obviously my working could be completely wrong, in which case I apologise, but I just cannot see us selling for anything less than 25 million.
Get him to wash Wengers car every matchday for the next 12 months and say to the other players " THIS is what happens when you try to **** with Arsenal "
Yeh cut our losses and sell him for the highest possible price juventus or city or wherever he goes. We already have 2 strikers who have been brought in, we may need another one and reports that we are linked with doumbia the midfielder from rennes in the mould of viera apparently. I would still like to see us bring in a defender and a creative midfielder is possible, also if walcott decides to leave then do we bring in a winger, personally i'm not too bothered if he stays or goes gervinho will be very goo next season imo.
Personally i would like to see Demba Ba up front in an Arsenal shirt . With some good service he could be a real goal machine.
