Simmo can do a lot better than Reading IMHO.

Hopefully freeing up other funds for a new striker (I'm still dreaming about de Jong)

Get it done Reading, you have my 100% blessing! A newly promoted/top championship team seems about the right level for Simpson IMO.

A shame to lose another English player in the lineup but I prefer quality over that any day of the week and we should get that in Debuchy.

He's much better than a newly promoted team level/championship level.

He could be a great player for a mid-table side pushing for top 10.

We definitely should try to aim for a better 1st choice RB, but I would love to keep Simmo as back up/3rd choice.

Why are some people in such a rush to get rid of him? We NEED a big squad to do well in Europe. Selling lesser players and replacing them with better ones wont help us because we'll still have the same depth issues as we cannot play the same players every game.

Debuchy and Santon will be our first choice fullbacks, but who do we play in the mid week game? Or the game 3 days after that? We can't play anyone too often.

I agree with tash here mind, the amount of times he stopped the ball from crossing the line last season saved us a bucket full of points. Though if we can get better I doubt he'd happily play second fiddle.

Danny Simpson better than we think but not as good as he thinks

I'll drive him there myself if his replacement is Debuchy!

Couldn't give a **** about Simpson staying on as a squad player, if Debuchy were to get injured I would be just as happy to see Tavernier, Perch or Raylor to fill in there temporarily.

Might aswell make some money from Simpson before his contract runs out.

The bloke offers zero going forward and is suspect defensively and clearly thinks hes better than he is.

Not trying to have a go, but didn't you read what I said? This isn't just about covering Debuchy, this is about squad depth and the amount of games. We cannot play Santon and Debuchy every game.

We need a 3rd and 4th choice so we can rotate.

Perch is a good makeshift fullback. Raylor is definitely not. Raylor is a great midfield player and has some good qualities, but he can only play fullback if he's basically got Jonas right in front of him all game, which isn't helpful.

I'd only be for selling Simmo if we got Debuchy, and also Anita, who can play DM and has played at LB for Ajax a number of times. Then I'd be ok.

But signing Debuchy then just selling Simmo, and that's it, would be pretty silly. We need more depth. Tarvernier and Raylor would only be acceptable fullback choices in an emergency or a cup game IMO.

Guess what, I have a different opinion to yours, get over it, live with it and practice it and it will bring you more friends in life.

My point was that with Simpson not wanting to sign a new deal because he thinks hes worth of the money the likes of Cisse, Ba and Cabaye are on, his suspect defending and his woeful attacking and the fact he obviously thinks hes better than he is, that we might aswell cash in now before he runs his contract down, provided we sign Debuchy.

We have Tavernier, who Pardew has already been quoted as saying is as good as Simpson (lets hope hes a bit better)
We have Perch, who was fantastic all across the back line and midfield at the end of last season, a player whos finding his feet in the premier league.
We have Raylor who always puts in a shift, isn't the best fullback but neither is Simpson.

Get Debuchy in, get shot of Simpson for the extra cash, and then perhaps think about bringing another young fullback in if needed.

I'm used to people thinking I can't accept others opinions. No matter.

As I said in the comment above, If Simmo goes, and all we sign in the fullback department is Debuchy, I'll be pissed, but if we sign Debuchy + A player than can cover fullback, I'll be ok.

Pardew obviously knows more about the players than we do, but how often have the fans seen Tavernier play? Hardly ever.

I respect Pards opinions, but we can't just accept the managers opinions as absolute fact.

    This! Ammy is spot on.

I agree that Simmo had a good season and I've nothing againt the lad, but he seems a bit above himself. He is better defensively than many full-backs in the Prem and puts himself on the line - he's but not so good going forward. It's hard to find players who are great at both. But personally, I'd love to see Debuchy in a Toon shirt.

If that means Simmo goes, then fair enough. At TWD says, we have plenty of 'cover' with Perch, Tavernier + Raylor (probably in that order for me - unless we're playig mackems in which case Raylor MUST start regardless).

The danger would be that Simmo goes and we don't buy someone of Debuchy's quality - then we have a totally different situation.

If Simmo stays, I'd be happy. But if selling him helps fund someone like Debuchy, then I'd be excited.

Quite a few would like him to stay, he improved hand over fist since coming here and it'll be a pity to lose him.

With possibly a very heavy fixture list in front of us next season we'll need strength in depth.

Makes sense on their part. He is a very reliable and committed defender with good PL experience. You know you'll get a job well done out of him. I'd like to see him stay but it seems as though they are struggling to agree terms. **** happens and everyone moves on. I'd wish him well as he has done a very good job for us.
