Hopefully if he toughens up a little we may yet see another of his ilk in Adam. He has all of the skills but just needs a more powerful shot.

What I love about Le Tissier's highlights is that he never tries to do too much, they are the result of a perfect technique not raw power or speed or the law of averages where 1 in 50 long range shots will come off. Unfortunately I never saw Le Tissier live and have always wondered what was Le Tissier's all round game like, in other videos I have seen that he was great at taking corners and crossing, but was he Southampton's best passer of the ball? Did he ever track back like Lambert and head clear from opposition corners or do things like that or was he purely a loose man in attack.

At his testimonial he even went in goal for a while and was, of course, brilliant. He kept saving from Shearer who was trying very hard to score. In answer to the question, he could tackle if required and I do remember a couple of amazing last ditch tackles but probably the reason I remember them is that they were pretty rare.

Some say he was the illegitimate love child of Pele after a viagra commercial and George Best after some very strong whisky, and that if you speak his name three times Alex Ferguson ****s himself.

All we know is, he's called Le God.

He wouldn't pull out of a tackle, but he'd never track back to make one, so in that sense he was all about attack. He was a proper number 7 when he started his career, on the wing.

In what he did he was brilliant. The rest of the team would get the ball off the opposition, and then give it to LeTiss. He'd either then make an opportunity from virtually nothing, by doing some sort of fabulous pass, or score himself. There were times when he was utterly unplayable. Opposition players said that he was completely unpredictable, and couldn't be read. What other stars did and do, that was and is, considered extra special, was mundane to him. His play was regularly in the virtually impossible category. Let's not talk about his lack of international caps or I shall weep.

Good updated Youtube composition. Timely reminder StG.

PS. He was a midfielder who scored lots of goals. The first one to get to 100 goals in the PL.

Somebody once asked me how Le Tissier compared to Cristiano Ronaldo. I had to reply that Ronaldo was maybe just slightly better, but then again Matty is 43 now...

Rickie is the only thing close to Le Tissier. Sorry but Adam is overrated and no where near as good as Rickie

In terms of natural ability he's in the very best company, an elite that includes Pele, Best, Cruyf, Maradona, Hoddle, Ronaldinho (Jah Jah Binks), and Messi.

Did anyone used to listen to the games on the radio? "Le Tissier's on the ball, Carling Black Label brewed for a fuller football flavour, GOAAAAAAAAAAAAAL!"

Good little video that was shown on ESPN

Some quality remarks from Razor Ruddock on Le Tiss. "We'd go down the pub, he'd go to McDonalds". In regards to Le Tiss pen record, "I had missed 2 the previous week, so they chanaged takers". "So its down to me Le Tiss is a hero". ha!

i have a chelsea supporting friend that can only see the colour blue, he is always banging on about how many goals Lampard has, it is true that he is a great player and will probably finish his career behind only Alan Shearer for goals scored in the premiership. So I had a little look on wiki and Matt still has more goals than Frankie, but Matt has an average of 2.71 games per goal, whereas Franks average is 3.5. When you also consider Matt played for a team that for the last 7 years of his career were always fighting relegation and probably 70% of his goals he created himself. Both players take penalties and freekicks for the team. Matt was playing before the premiership (and during) which is why he is not on the the highest scorers list. Without doubt the guy is an enigma and a genius who basically kept us in the top flight almost single handed

the thing i really liked about le tiss was that he would never give the ball away, no one ever dispossessed him. He'd keep the ball so close and was able to glide between players with the ball attached to his feet. He had an amazing ability to send opposing players that were trying to tackle him the wrong way and would avoid the tackles by inches, he had such precision. He was very much a one - off. I cant think of a similar top flight / premier league player appart fropm maybe Cantona.

Well I have watched LeGod live, and believe you me, if DVDs and Videos were not around, it would count for little, because I would be waxing lyrical to you about his abilities and you almost certainly wouldn't believe me. But thankfully, you can see nobody is exaggerating anything.

What the videos only hint at was his passing and crossing ability. He could pass and cross [and shoot] better than 90% of other of his peer footballers on their best foot, with his weaker left foot, and on his stronger right foot he could pass and cross better than anyone, including Mr Beckham, and without all the palaver about it too. He could ping the ball 50-60 yards to feet, or to the stride. He was that good. Plus he was the best corner taker, I've ever seen. Had a history of school football scoring direct from them.
