Following yesterday's acquisition of Butterworth do we think that our two former loanees are off the list of potential targets? Looking at the squad the obvious gap is still RB (assuiming that CH is not able to pull Naughton out of the hat) but with Holt's future also secured and a left-footed utility player on board can we see there being much more activity in this window?

On the other hand we have spent virtually nothing to get said players so CH must have quite a decent amount of cash burning a hole in his pocket and I am sure that he will not fancy some of the existing squad and look to strengthen. Does this increase our chance of holding on to Naughton?

    Thoughts please?

I think it is highly unlikely that Hughton will want Naughton, Paccheco or Lansbury; they are players Lambert took on loan, and Hughton is his own man.

Hughton may be his own man but why would he not wnat to keep Naughton? If PL had taken Messi on loan I reckon CH'd try to keep him own man or not. Obviously there is atiny amount of difference between the two situations but I'm sure you get my point.

Oops. Showing my age a little, more a mental slip than a typo. I think had we signed IB then maybe things wouldn't be quite so rosy!

Sorry OP but how is Butter'worth' a left-footed utility player? He is a two footed attacking midfielder.

I don't think we can afford Naughton regardless of what is spent so far (due to wages) so perhaps another loan or look at Clyne from Palace as the apparent interest from bigger clubs seems to have died down. Or is Whittaker first choice with Martin primarily a CB but available to cover at RB if needed?

Hughton has said there will be more arrivals, personally for me I'd like: an experienced CB (C.Davies), a DM (Bridcutt), a winger (Snoddy or Ince) and a striker (No suggestions but I'd have a look overseas).

i think he meant whittaker, although he is actually right footed.

clyne appears to be off to villa! there was talk in the media that lambert wanted clyne at norwich but has now decided to take him to villa as he can't afford naughton. i'd be delighted with clyne, great young full back. would be interesting to go head to head against villa for him to be honest

Ah my bad must of misread his OP then! Sorry OP!

If Clyne is going elsewhere and Naughton is unavailable (I don't think AVB will give him a chance personally) so can actually see him becoming available but I think a Everton or even Newcastle could move for him then let's give Whittaker a chance with Martin available too.

would like to see Naughton on loan and Ince with a good experienced striker but with a fit Vaughan ,Jacko , Morro and rejuvinated Holt I will not be at all nervous if we dont bring in another striker, these guys will score!! prob best we spend to stop the leakage the other end, we have the best keeper in our part of the prem just need him not to have to work as hard

now we have two in for a little amount of money, i would like to see, pretty similar to above

a new CB to partner ayala / bennett
a defensive midfielder with a bit of steel
a new LB to compete with Tierney. Lappin can provide cover

save a fair amount of cash for January, as we'll need it when we're half way through

    looking forward to it!

i think we are all aware that hughton is already after a centre half but i've heard we are after a left back too, no idea who, so your wish may be granted <ok>

It's all good. It makes you think though where we were a couple of years ago and what is happening to Rangers now, it could have been us.
Who will be next? Portsmouth maybe as they jump from one crisis to another, it just shows what can happen.

I am sure I read somewhere that he is "two footed" (yeah, I know, but you know what I mean, can use either foot to equally good effect), this being a big factor in his versatility. <ok>

butterfield is two footed to the extend he claims he doesn't know which one is his best. whittaker can play left back but is predominantly right footed, though i'm only going from memory!

I would love them to come back, but i don't see that happening.

CH should look at were we need strengthening, and i don't see either of those two as a vital need.
