Just read the comments of the majority of Pompey fans to understand the embarrassment yet again.
If Southampton fans and I say If, voted for a statue , which everyone says is stupid, then why was it a option.
Some people also pointed out with having thousands of empty seats every home match, then why can't the club just offer school children a free seat or even for a pound any way.
I really don't think it's down to the fans at all for the embarrassment the Club has become but a gesture of the £30,000 going to charity would have been nice.

Using the prize money as a donation to charity was strictly not allowed, nor could it be used for paying debts or wages. Those were the terms of the competition.

I can't understand why the suggestion of a statue was made, or even where it came from, but apparently it really was high up in the voting stakes. If it had been the winner the fans would have been absolutely mortified. But, to be fair, it was a very amusing interlude in the saga of Pompey football club.

Where is the £30k ultimately ending up? Pompey's bank account is the answer, for the club to do as it wants with it.

In other news...

The club are still making odd decisions, adding to their wage bill whilst in admin.

Both these stories from today...

- Pompey told they can't recruit any players

Neil Allen ‏@pn_neil_allen #Pompey have been told there will no Football League change in stance over recruitment. Means club still cannot sign players.

- Pompey appoint head of recruitment

The FL have implemented a one in one out with lower wages MLG. And the head of recruitment is hardly gonna be on 50k a week. A saw and ad for a job as a physical trainer at Pompey offering 20k... a year. Would have applied if I was in anyway qualified.

Bournemouth weren't even allowed to sign a player that offered to play for free. Over clubs have faced similar when in admin. Why should Pompey be treated differently? They should be using the youth players they already have at the club.

In any case Neil Allen is indicating it isn't even a one in, one out policy. He is suggesting Pompey can't sign anyone at the moment. WHich makes the appointment of a head of recruitment bizarre to say the least.

It doesn't matter if he is being paid £5 or £50k, it is still adding to the costs of a buisness in admin. Costs that simply cannot be justified to the businesses creditors. He can't even recruit anyone at the moment as Neil Allen says, and in any case the manager in times of financial problems should do this role.

I love how they had to get the little dig in about us voting. It's probably nonsense anyway. I certainly didn't.

I not saying Pompey should be treated differently. But trying to get players in on low wages when players on high wages are being shipped out isn't against the law.

As for the head of recruitment, that's called being prepared although I get what your saying on him not being able to sign anyone anyway. And the creditors, don't get me started. Most of them are the problem why we're in such a mess.

Nice as Neil Allen is, he is a reporter for the local News - and they are notorious for sloppiness in the details published in their articles, plus he isn't the official spokesperson for the club.

Trevor Birch, who, as the administrator, is the official face of the club at the moment, has clearly said that it is 1 player out, 1 player in.

Trevor Birch will also have approved the appointment - nothing happens without his say so.

Therefore, nothing for you to worry about <ok>

That's really good to hear. Be assured I didn't vote in 2001 for your kit either. <laugh>

No - really I didn't!

You already have players that could be used at the club on low wages. It is called the youth team. Any other player that comes in increases the wage bill of a business currently in administration. It is shocking how many Pompey fans don't understand this concept that it matters not how you do next season, the business has failed 3 times, is currently in admin and should be using youth team players to make up the numbers.

The club cannot sign players at the moment. A head of recruitment is a pointless position until you can so why pay him wages whilst the business is in admin? In any case whilst in financial problems the club shouldn't need a "head of recruitment", the coaching staff should be forced to cover this role to save money.

So you are blaming the numerous charities, schools and small local businesses and you think money that could go to them should go to new players?

Then why the direct quotes from Appleton this week saying they are planning to be in contact with the Football League to allow them to sign players? Doesn't sound like a one in, one out policy to me. If that was the policy, why are Pompey being treated differently to every other club in admin?

Have you taken over from RLGB? Let's just go over this one more time. The charities were paid from funds raised by the Pompey supporters. They are not part of the CVA because they were paid!

There are no charity creditors in this round of debt - although there were 2 charities who were surprised to discover that they were going to get a donation from the admin fees charged in November and December from the tickets sold on the day.

Now move on - you're embarrassing yourself with your ignorance.

The young guns should be used. I'm agreeing with you. Our admin has said that if the wage bill is sliced to an appropriate amount then players on low wages can be brought in. It only takes 2 players Ben Haim and Mokeona to cut the bill by almost 4mil a year.

Again I'm also confused as to why we need a head of recruitment at the mo, but this has been okayed by the administrator. End of story.

I should have been more specific. Main creditors, like Chanrai, CSI and Gayademak are ones I was talking about. The charities have twice been payed of by the fans. And other small creditors were "to be payed £2500" by Chanrai. Obviously that didn't happen, he secured that to CSI when they took over. They didn't do it now it's once again the fans cleaning up the mess.

New players is ditto what I said about the wage bill being sliced.

Oh use your loaf................ he can ask, don't ask don't get.

3 players (Mokoena, Kanu & Ben Haim) are holding out for their full contract money, so they haven't left yet. 3 players (Henderson, Pearce & Ward) have gone to other clubs - 3 players have been given contracts, these are youth players, Magri, Webster & Harris.

The rest of the players are on the transfer list and the club is waiting for offers for them - they don't want to pay them off and they don't want them to tear up their contracts, they want transfer fees for them.

Appleton asked because the pre-season is starting very soon. The FL said no. So therefore Pompey is not being treated differently.

The Saints fans voting thing sounds like a bit of a Snooze attempt to whip up a story to be honest...how many was it, 10 or 10000? Anyway this is good news for the club because they are basically buying £30,000 worth of tickets from you and hey, some of them might come back.

Next question, does anyone know what the situation with your backroom staff is looking like? I was unfortunate enough to wind up at Welly Sports Ground last season and the coaches said they were pretty much working for free. There weren't that many in the first place either so hopefully Appy and Birch will be able to get something sorted out for the new season.

We don't know how many there were, but it seems there were enough Saints fans to skew the results. Don'tcha just love this rivalry? <laugh>

Anyway all's well that ends well........... and it gives us (well some) a stick to continue beating Saints fans with <whistle>
