If these rumours are true, is this not good news? If he's happy to say on for another year and see out his contract, then it's good news. He's happy to be at Arsenal and so are his family. He will also be bouyed by the fact that we've brought in 2 quality reinforcements, while looking to get additional players in. Also we seems to be getting rid of the rejects. Existing players such as Wilshere, will be coming back to the squad, hopefully early next season, thus bolstering our squad futher.

We should do much better than last season. So will this renewed ambition and significant team improvement entice him to say the following season. Why not? No more cashing in thankyou. The future is looking bright again for us...

He's not exactly clamoring for the door, nor is anyone significant coming in for him. He's happy, we're now looking more ambitious and getting players in, his family are happy to be in London. So why would he want to leave now? The only thing that would have moved him is us not showing ambition, this is no longer the case this summer transfer window.

This is all very strange. On one hand Podolski + Giroud is so unlike Arsenal these days. It only makes sense if we sell RVP and get £25ml. Then we have two younger players for the price of one better one plus some pocket change. That would be very much like usual Arsenal transfer policy. So for me it is all indicating that RVP will leave. On the other hand if you look through all gossip and speculation, there is no real interest in Robin. No talks, no offers, no one even tries to unsettle him. That strange interview with his dad who said moving to ManCity is out of question. I know it is just dad, but he surely would have been advised to keep his mouth shut it something was on the cards there. I think if some big club was really interested, they would have already manifested their interest in a much more obvious way. I think RVP has effectively priced himself out of the market. His current form carries a heavy price tag, but his history and age make it all too risky. Everyone knows that Arsenal have offered Robin big money, because the whole team are working for Robin and it works. Is it worth trying to beat it? To buy RVP and shape your team around a soon-to-be-30 player? Not really. Will Robin ever have as good a season as the last one? Will he stay fit when he is 30+ ?? Actually buying Podolski+Giroud Arsene says that that season was a fluke, you can not relay on RVP banging goals month after month, and we need to rebuild our attacking line regardless of RVP staying or not. I think most big managers would regard paying big money for RVP now as a knee-jerk reaction.

You ahve a point EmirAleks. At the end of the day, RVP is at the wrong side of 30 and would command a heafty price tag, due to us not wanting to sell, or need to. But it's a risk for any top club that is trying to manage their budgets. Only a team like Man City and PSG could come in and splash the cash without caring for form or prior injury points. But his dad has seemingly ruled out any English clubs and PSG is an unlikely destination for him. Barca and Real already have plenty of top strikers and won't come in for a risky, short term return. Only club i can think of is Bayern, and even i doubt they would come in.

This is totally different from the Fabs situation, where he was young, had a good injury record and was chased by most top clubs, notably Barca. We shouldn't have the same pressure with RVP.

Or we can think a little more positively and assume the board are finally showing some ambition. (Wenger obviously wants to keep RVP and has come out and said so numerous times)

    i think

    Van Persie
    Podolski
    Giroud
    Walcott
    Gervinho
    Joel Campbell

Is an extremely good selection of forwards. We have a good mixture of technical ability, height, pace and power.

If we can tighten up defensively this could be a suprisingly good Season ahead.

With a year left on his deal, his age and his injury record we will not get more than £20-30 Million for RVP. I'd rather we kept him and won something next season.

I think he will re-sign anyway, but if this is the situation and he wants to stay but see how things go next season and how our squad shapes up then i'd keep him 100%. He enjoys being an Arsenal man, his family love london and he craves the legendary status. I'm confident RVP will still be here next season and tb h i expect the rest of his career.

You guys have an exciting forward line up. Regardless of what RVP does, you will still do very well next season. As has been pointed out already, you have done well without RVP so it stands to reason you will do fine without him. Pod and Giroud are two top, top striking talents. Get M'Vila too and the top 4 is set. The order is anyone's guess though.

Hands off!: Arsenal 'not remotely interested' in selling Van Persie
    http://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/transfer-news/robin-van-persie-will-hold-crucial-1111953

Robin van Persie will hold crunch talks with Arsene Wenger this week, as Arsenal insist they are not "in the remotest bit" interested in selling him. Italian champions Juventus claim they have had a rock-bottom £8million approach for van Persie turned down, but the Gunners claim they have not had an offer and will fight to keep their captain. Juve are only prepared to go up to £15m for the 28-year-old Dutchman, who only has 12 months left on his current deal. Manchester City are also poised to move in for van Persie this week.

Van Persie is on holiday after playing at Euro 2012, but is planning on talking to Arsenal manager Wenger by phone this week. He has already made it clear he will not sign the new £130,000-a-week, three-year contract the Gunners are offering.

Meanwhile, Arsenal chairman Peter Hill-Wood said: “As far as I am aware, nobody has made any offer for him and he is away so we are not in any dialogue at all. We are not in the remotest bit interested in selling him.”

Will any major things happen this week on the RVP situation? I'm sure RVP has sufficiently calmed down after Holland's awful Euro campaign. His mind should hopefully be swinging back towards staying with Arsenal after our club's ambitious outting in the transfer market. We should offer him an improved contract and get his signature.

On a side note, if Arsenal were to sell RVP, selling him for £15m would be foolish. Considering we get over £20m for qualifying for the champions league, and RVP was the chief reason for us reaching it this season, it would make both footballing and financial sense to keep him.

Precisely. Arsenal fans should in no way be persuaded to think that we will be 'forced' to sell him. Even if he leaves on a free next May, his contribution to our CL qualification and possibility of winning trophies out weighs a possible payday this summer.

Also if we win something (or look good enough to win something) he may sign next season anyway.

I'd offer him either 150k/week or a 4 year contract instead of 3.

This is one thing i'm critical on Arsene about. Clearly RVP is quality and he isn't a player that relies on his physical attributes, but on pure skill. Barring any hideous injuries, he will be the same type of player at 34, that he was when he was 25. He will be a long term asset to us. Considering the amount of time he's spent out of the game on minor injuries, he should be fresher than a lot of players his age. This season he was consistently terrific and never tired, even at the end of the season. Even in the Euros did he not look tired.

So i would agree with giving him a 4 year deal. To win things, you have to keep your best players. Players like the Pod and Giroud are quality players, but are not on the same level as RVP. You don't get players like RVP easily, but when you do, you make sure you keep them. RVP is special.

100% agree with this, he may lose a bit of pace but his technical ability will always remain a 4 year deal would be fantastic as it would encourage the fans that RVP is staying but also the other players who probably look up to him

Lose a bit of pace, the guy has hardly any already :p But this is what i call classy. For a guy with little pace, he still manages to score so many goals. He is multi-talented and can play a range of positions.

Absolutely agree, I have been saying this all along (although not on this forum), he'll be playing for years to come.

Hmm, if only there were a flaw in this argument? Oh yeah, what if you don't win anything and he still leaves on a free?

No flaw at all. If we sell RVP now for £30m but CL qualification guarantees £40m and helps us achieve that, we'd be £10m better off. As it stands there is no way we would get that for him so it actually makes sense to keep him and lose him for nothing next season if that ensures us getting CL football.
