Hartani looks progressive, but is it possible to oppose Midnight Soprano just now?

There are a couple i like in the next at Salisbury, both may have progressed a year on after poor performances last year and are decent double figure odds and may be worth an EW punt in what looks like a pretty average 8 runner maiden stakes MABLES SONG 16/1 and RUNAWAY GIRL 25/1 are my selections, igf i was swayed to towards one it would be RUNAWAY GIRL who could be suited by the going better

    Capal Dubh Alainn 11/1

William Coleman O'Brien's 7 year old is my only bet of the day and I think he is very interesting. Primarily known as a hurdler, I though Capal Dubh Alainn shaped extremely well on his last start after an 8 month break on what was his first ride on the flat since 2008. In a conditions type race, he plugged on very well over the 2m trip at Limerick to finish an excellent 5L beaten 3rd. The winner Caim Hill is a 76 rated horse on the flat prior to this and given Capal Dubh Alainn was only rated 58 and carried only 3lb less it was a really good effort. Moreover, Capal Dubh Alainn finished ahead of The Real Article, a 152 rated hurdler who had slammed a 97 rated animal in a minor flat event the month before it was an extremely good effort, especially when he has always seemed to need his reappearance run. Its a strange race to evaluate but I think it was a very good effort. He's now racing in a handicap off a mark of 64 and I think based on the last effort he should have a very good chance. When analysing his flat form in his earlier days over in England with Tim Pitt, he won off a mark of 60 on his 2nd last flat start for the trainer so even discounting his last effort as a fluke he still looks pretty well weighted on previous form. This gelding is a mud lover over hurdles so I think he's going to absolutely relish todays conditions. Trainer William Coleman O'Brien, who is primarily a jumps trainer, had his first ever winner on the flat earlier this month which is a definite bonus. The talented Rory Cleary takes the ride and this represents both his only ride of the day and his first ride for O'Brien and he looks a rather encouraging jockey booking. He's sure to come on for his reappearance run and if that race wasn't a false dawn then I think Capal Dubh Alainn looks very well weighted off a mark of 64 and I think he could prove very difficult to beat in conditions he'll love.

    Hi Sparky <ok>

He has a lot of potential and looked slightly unlucky at Ascot but I don't think he can beat SO YOU THINK. Hope they put him in though

I agree, even if he had a clear passage, I don't think he would have beaten So You Think. He may turn out to be a Group 1 horse and the extra distance may suit. Who know's he may end up in the St Leger - a race which may have about 30 runners <laugh>

Keep it in the pocket! Although providing there are 8 runners, Avonrose should go well in the fillies handicap at Pontefract @ 8/1

At the minute I am focusing mainly on the Greyhounds because I've been doing some commentary work at Sunderland. Thoroughly enjoying it <ok>
