Newcastle fans felt backlash as Sunderland bank mega cheque Football News 24/7 This weekâs deal of the week has to be Sunderland's because no one would have expected Tullow Oil to sponsor football via their Invest in Africa initiative. The organisation will appear on Sunderland shirts and as boss Aidan Heavey said of the deal âI think itâs a great move for Sunderland and for ourselves. âItâs a great continent but itâs also a continent that is football mad and this sponsorship deal will capture the imagination over there. âMark my words, Sunderland will be the best known club in Africa over the next few years.â But not all deals are made in heaven as Manchester United and Newcastle United have found. US insurer AIG didnât renew their £57million deal with Manchester after taking a £109billion bailout in the financial crisis and Newcastle fans, whose shirts bore the Northern Rockâs name, will remember rival fans singing âYou should have banked with the Woolwichâ. Tottenham Hotspur have partnered Mike Lynchâs software firm Autonomy, which seems odd for a non-High Street business. Aurasma, the firmâs little-known âaugmented realityâ app, also appeared on the strip. Sometimes the sponsorship dovetails neatly with West Ham sponsored by Doc Martens, while in Scotland referees have the backing of Specsavers. Looking good for us. Ellis is a shrewd cookie and MON at the helm should mean happy days. If the mags are bitching, that's just another good sign we're on the up
One chairman deals with mega bucks on a world financial stage. The other is .........................
A fat cockney ****er who owns a club which is home to the fattest and thickest set of similar fat ****ers in the western world. Thought I'd finish the statement kidda. Lol
Are we even getting paid for this short name, as no details have been announced. And why do the toon and man u give a ****, they still got paid! Odd piece.
Every fan base has it's muppets lads. I personally think it's a good deal, but I'm not losing any sleep over it at all.
What backlash are we feeling. Got nowt to do with us. We are on a sound footing, this should help you towards that. Bit of a daft piece tying us in with that like.
How much is the deal?, i think every players should have his own sponsor and player should be given bonuses on what they achieve i e finishing 6th etc.
hmm, i only found out about this deal because the author of that article put 'Newcastle' in the title, before that, i expect like many Geordies, it had completely passed under the radar. also, it's only £20mil a season, not that much really, certainly not enough to make me feel a 'backlash' or get all upset why do SAFC fans / writers often present stuff about their club in terms of how it related to or effects NUFC and our fans ?
- indeed it seems to be, and that image of a silly mistake (maybe even a photoshop effort, albeit a good one) isn't what I mean like I say, the original article paints a positive for SAFC in terms of how it effects our fans, a really odd way to discuss something that's good for the club
You are comparing an unbiased article with photoshopped mickey taking yet claiming to be making a credible point? Hmm.
The photo shopped piece was actually taken from a factual article about how dedicated Sunderland fans were compared with nufc when queuing for the new strip. If I remember correctly the 2 in the photo were interviewed camped outside the sol waiting to be he first to buy the new home kit going on to mention Newcastle fans and how we don't compare because you won't see toon supporters camped outside our club shop waiting for a shirt. Anyway this article was posted as a Micky take, the person who wrote the Sunderland article had a stab at a serious piece but somehow tied in Newcastle. I don't get the connection myself.
But that is the whole point. One is a purposeful piss take, while the other is a stand alone article. The fact it also mentions NUFC is neither her nor there. It also mentions MUFC, I bet they have a bee in their bonnet about it as well.
