I don't buy it, one minute asking for silly money and turning down our 8m bid, then accepting a 9m bid? Doesn't work unless they are demanding more from us due to us making a steal with Tiote.

Says nothing about add ons etc. perhaps theirs will rise far higher than our fee?

Either way, until he is holding up a shirt with his name on the dotted line, no-body knows whats going on!

    From caught offside...

Toon miss out on Dutch forward.
Newcastle United target Luuk de Jong has opted to join Bundesliga side Borussia Mönchengladbach, according to reports in the German media.
The 21-year-old FC Twente striker has established himself as one of the hottest*properties*in the Eredivisie, banging in 32 goals in all competitions last season for Steve McLaren’s side.
Newcastle had appeared strong contenders for the Netherlands international, with Toon officials reportedly in Holland last week to iron out a deal with the Netherlands international.
But German daily Bild plus a host of other news sources from across Europe claim that Mönchengladbach have won the race for his signature and will conclude a £10 million deal imminently.
Luuk De Jong may well have been lured to the Bundesliga side with the promise of Champions League football next term, something boss Lucien Favre could offer following Monchengladbach’s fourth place finish last term.

Told ya, should've bid more aggressively. 11 to 12 million quid and he was yours.

To be fair, if he goes elsewhere, it will just strengthen our desire to get Hoilett.

If Ba stays we'll have Hoilett, Ba, Cisse, Ben Arfa (all fighting for first team) and Amalfitano, Sammy, Vuckic and Ferguson as back up

I don't really care that much unless Ba leaves.

If we pay over the odds for a player today, it will cost us in future negotiations with clubs for other players. As much as I would have liked De Jong, I am sure our excellent scouts have some other targets up their sleaves

Play FC Twente's game and every club we try to do business with in future will bung the price of their player up.

Make a fair offer and it's a case of take it or leave it.

We couldn't get him at the price we wanted, I'm not upset.

    Onto Hoillet!

Maybe, but you have little to offer for a player like De Jong, Europa league, he played CL in 2010-2011 and EL in 2011-2012 Borussia can offer him CL.
You took about a month to not even get close to a deal. Borussia did a first offer in the second week of June. And now with a second bid they got him for 8 million pounds and incentives for another 3/4 million. In all, they offered what De Jong wanted, CL, and what the club wanted, a good deal without getting ripped off.
Like i already told you guys, we Dutch know perfectly when we are being toyed with. But in the end we always get what we want, doesn't matter if you think you're handing in a fair offer or if you care about future transfers, that's your problem not Twente's. If you don't pay it, other clubs will. And that's the way it goes out here. And in Douglas' case, they might just want to get rid of an error-prone, bad tempered defender that had a bad season.

You might got lucky with Tioté, but with someone as established as De Jong, you're paying the price, nothing less. And if you don't want to, you're not getting any player from this country. I said it 4 weeks ago, and i'm repeating it now, this is how things work out here.

That may be the way it works for you guys, but I don't think many Newcastle fans can have many complaints about the transfer policy in the last 18 months or so - we like the way we do things here too =) So what if we didn't get De Jong, we'll Luuk elsewhere!

I am just referring to my statements a month earlier: you're not gonna get him like this, just pointing out the reasons why, that's it.

They want to keep Douglas though. Mclaren has said this. We won't be held to ransom by any team, if we don't get de Jong, we move on. He might be the next van persie or equally could be the next kluivert. Our league is a big step up and if oil scouts say he is not worth 12 mil then I trust their judgement. He's 21 and wouldn't be an automatic starter for us. For 12 mil, he would have to be a key player.

I'd rather go with our mans valuation of him than that thick smoggie's valuation of him.

tbf, all clubs over value their best players to prevent others from getting them. We won't accept less than 20 odd million for the likes of Tiote, Cabaye and Ben Arfa, but are they really worth more than any player we've ever bought? The signings we've made haven't been a clubs star player before, Tiote came under the radar, Cabaye seems to have been relatively silently effective (All the eyes were on Gervinho, Sow and Hazard), Marveaux was out of contract?, Ba was a free. Cisse is the only one we really took a clubs best player, and even then we had to wait six months or even a year for them to be willing to accept our offer. It's when you start bidding for a clubs leading man, or brightest youth prospect, that you have to go with what the selling club wants.
