So we will be in the training centre in landore in september and the fairwood facilities are ongoing for the next 2 years. Why improve the pitch in Llandarcy if we are not going to be there ?
Well at least there may may be some more public training sessions there. I think the two new locations are as much about keeping away outsiders as much as improving where we have to train.
Great news and about time .regardless of what League we're playing in this is long overdue ,although being in the Premiership ship does allow a slight slackening of the purse strings
The Landore facility will be a cracking training centre. Fairwood to me is the long term goal, this development from what I can gather will be to get the pitches up to scratch and the facilities. Then to build on a leisure complex, this would take time with planning etc.
I hope they will still allow the public to view some training sessions because I always enjoy watching what goes on when I can get down. Haven't been for a while now but I'd like to see how ML works the players.
I'm chuffed about this. It's going to provide a massive boost to the Landore area of the city as well I think, in terms of extending the people traffic up the river after the Hafod. I saw signs on the Livermore building on the way to work yesterday, too, indicating it's being renovated with a Pizza Hut and 2 additional properties in it, and I doubt any of that would be happening if it wasn't for the Swans massive rise in popularity. I used to play up on Fairwood for Killay when I was younger, so it'll be nice to see the Swans up there! The youth team has used the facilities for years, I think...They'll have to do loads of work on the pitches though. The further toward the changing rooms you get, the pitches get boggier, and boggier, and boggier...
Great News, and not before time, our team deserve the best of facilities, and judging by the artist impressions, it looks very good, being in the Premiership, I'm sure has made this more possible!..............
Another pizza hut what's wrong with the one by the stadium ? Don't get me wrong it's good for jobs and all that but Christ there's one half a mile away.
The decision to press ahead with (or even propose at all) the Fairwood development is a bit of a head scratcher to be honest. The sheer tangle of usage rights, location and facility construction has held the whole development up for about a year longer than was necessary. Had the club chosen to construct their own, exclusive use training centre on one of the many brownfield sites around the area (Felindre, Jersey Marine and Swansea Vale to name just three) then it'd be half built by now.
But they would have to buy the land first, and still get planning permission. Who actually owns these parcels of land?
Yes but as for the other sites you mentioned, I know you can't build further down swansea vale as there conservation order down there, as for felindre who actually owns that land? Jersey Marine would probably be owned by Neath PT Council, so again we would be at the mercy of a different local authority.
Whatever we did we'd have to buy the land off someone. Not seeing that as a particularly big deal. Owning our own facilities has to be infinitely preferable to sharing, even if we do have first dibs on it. Just hope we're not being penny wise and pound foolish by trying to do things on the cheap.
The land is owned by the uni in fairwood, that has been going forward at a pace it seems, because of no legal wrangles on the land, just planning permission. How long have we been waiting on landore ? It's got to be at least 5 years.
It's not just down to planning. The University have been dragging their heels. Landore is another perfect example of what I'm on about. Why did we need to redevelop a piece of land that was owned and being used be someone else? How much longer did it take having to move the Landore sports clubs off there instead of just getting our own place?
The point is its acres of land the club needs not just a usual building plot, we need at least 3 or 4 outdoor pitches, a multi purpose building needs to be built and if we are going for academy status scope to build an indoor full sized pitch as well. I can't think of anywhere big enough for our needs. If felindre was possible I am sure it would have gone there.
I'm not. Far from it. Everything about the whole situation smacks of us trying to do it on the cheap.
