Except apparently there won't be any players from Scotland or N. Ireland in the squad.

    Sort of proves my point.

It is worthless, but many of the players there don't treat it as such. Thus it's decent experience. Given that the majority of the players are English it has a lot to do with England.

If you want two things that have nothing to do with each other, try these: being an ambassador for the bid and being selected for the team as an athlete. Those have **** all to do with each other. Or are you also shocked and incensed that Seb Coe failed to make the 1500m team despite his huge impact in the bid, much bigger than Becks' anyway. Just remember how much good his "global appeals and brand" did for the World Cup bid.

Besides it shouldn't be a big deal not being selected for a second rater filler tournament right?

For the same reasons why leave him out? Its not important and its a great way to say thanks for helping get the games here in the first place.

English players could learn a thing or 2 about passing from Beckham aswell, something they have no idea how to do.

I would never suggest Beckham these days should be in a real international team, no way, but this second rate thing?

I dont think the olympics will be better to watch than the euros, the football that is, purely because nobody will be that bothered and it will be more free flowing/less nervy.

If we are going to participate we should take it seriously. A team GB is good and representative of the young footballers. I cannot see how selecting Beckham above the other three would have made the team more likely to win a medal. We should not make a mockery of olympic football. Just like some clubs and managers do not take some European competitions seriously ( And I include our club and manager in this)

Or the huge amount of support for our bid he drummed up, like helping the voters make their choice as England. Our plans were just that, plans for if we got the games, while important they are hardly a game changer as considering ours are a rip off and frankly look like a spastic designed them ( compare with Germany, China and many others who in recent years have hosted big sporting events ). More likely hampered our bid.

Then like the morons we are we designed the worst mascot ever known, if someone made a mascot for aids ( not that they would ) and it was of a monkey shagging some guy up the arse then that would of been a better mascot that what we came up with.

Globally england are disliked, so stadiums and **** wouldnt of made much difference, all countries can build a stadium. Few have a global icon like Beckham though. Someone who can influence the people who make the decisions to make one in our favour.

Not saying it was all down to him, but why do you think he was involved? For a laugh? To pass the time perhaps? or was it because nobody has a bigger profile and appeal in english sport than beckham?

    Yeh, thats it.

Could it be because he likes/craves the publicity that comes with it?
His football career is now almost irrelevant so he has to look at other ways to keep the Beckham brand alive.
I'm not saying he is an attention seeking self publicist who is only concerned about where the next sponsorship or advertisement deal is coming from..

Back on topic...If Beckham's form is the reason he was overlooked then fair enough, it isn't easy to judge a players form though when he is playing only for the £££s in a Country that doesn't take 'soccer' seriously.

But yet it would be fair to say the US would probably wipe the florr with England in a football match these days. So even countries that dont take it seriously ( they do, very, 35million active fans and growing so over 10% of a country the size of europe isnt bad going ) are getting ahead of us.

    <rofl> You are joking, right?
The same USA team that only managed a 1-1 draw against the mighty Guatemala in their last game?
How many of USA's best players actually play in the relatively non competitive USA leagues? Here's a clue...

Other than Landon Donavon, there's 3 players that play in the MLS and have a combined 32 caps between them. The Guatemala game was the last of 5 games in two weeks , and I'm assuming you didn't watch USA vs Guatemala game, but it was just another game that shows we still lack a decent goal scorer in our national team setup. If we're just going to pick one result and base that on how good a team is, then how about USA 5 Scotland 1. Would have been 10-1 if we had a decent center forward. In case you have forgotten we won the world cup group in 2010. Don't use the oh we had a **** tournament that year excuse. England have been **** for quite some time. Just man up and realize the USA aren't the pushovers they used to be. I'd actually put money on the USA winning a world cup before England wins another one.

Only 32 caps between 4 players who play in the MLS proves my point, it's not a strong league. The players who really want to prove themselves go elsewhere.
As for the national team a 5-1 against Scotland is not a good example but that's beside the point. I never said USA were a pushover and I'm not denying England have been ****, I just don't think the US of A would wipe the floor with England at present which is the point I was addressing.
I'll match any amount you're willing to stake in regards to who'll win a world cup first, neither of us will live to see it so I've got nothing to lose.
