UEFA president Michel Platini has revealed that Euro 2020 could be held in at least a dozen cities across the continent.

Turkey had been favourites to host the event but their bid has hit difficulties due to a desire to host the Olympic Games in Istanbul in the same year.

And Platini has confirmed a radical alternative is now being considered, which could lead to the tournament being staged in more than one or two countries.

"The Euros in 2020 could be held all over Europe. It could be either one country and 12 stadiums or one stadium in 12 or 13 cities. "

"The Euros in 2020 could be held all over Europe," said Platini.

"It could be either one country and 12 stadiums or one stadium in 12 or 13 cities."

Platini confirmed a final decision would be taken in January or February next year, adding: "This matter will be discussed very seriously."

As well as Turkey, there had also been talk about a three-pronged Celtic bid from Scotland, Wales and Republic of Ireland.

Now whilst I admit for some of the smaller countries and countries that are close together (such as the most recent Poland/Ukraine) this could work, however if it was across the entire continent, it would be ridiculous!

The logistics of it alone would be far too costly imo, and then theres the moving of teams/fans etc etc, clearly not a single care in the world for the fans of the countries

Platini was the better of him and Blatter, but I believe he is slowly catching up

I think this depends on how the groups etc will work. If its 6 groups of 4 for example there could be 6 countries with 2 cities each holding all the group games, then 4 more cities in different countries, having the qtrs, then 2 more having the semis and final, or even another one having the final. I can see it working as it means the cash and the costs are spread around more evenly. Of course the supporters will still end up paying through the nose, due to having to possibly move round 3 or 4 locations. But that might add to the fun?

The host nation(s) automatically qualify for the finals. How will that work if there are twelve nations involved?

Then there is the travel to be considered for the group games to start with, not only for the teams, but for the fans. It is expensive enough having to go to one (or two) countries but maybe having to travel all over Europe would be horrendously expensive. Although that wouldn't matter to the people like Platini who get all their flights, hotels, taxis etc paid for.
