Blue monkey - I read the rest of your comments and had no argument about them - I only pointed out what I saw was unfair in your post. I tend not to read forums for reviews on opposing players as we all see different things in all players. We have numerous disagreements over the ability of Leadbitter, Edwards, Norris, McAuley and a whole host of other players so what other fans think is likely to be equally as distorted.
PTC, I think a change of scenery can help and it is clear that most players will look a lot better/ worse depending on what surrounds them and what is expected of them. We have all seen signs of good players playing poorly due to their role within the team and players we thought of as useless excel when give the right opportunity.

Luke Chambers would be a good signing though he does lack pace but anything will be preferable to Delaney! <ok> By far the worst ever "footballer" to pull on the Town jersey and I mean even worse than Lee Chapman or Ulrich Le Pen!

Warky, we do seem to agree on most things but not this.

When partnered by a right sided dominant player (usually a captain or the organiser) Delaney is a very good centre back.

    Awaits getting shot down....... <laugh>

Tractorbhoy - I do see where you're coming from but I guess we all have different opinions on player abilities let alone the ITFC tradition of playing them in the wrong position!

I guess confidence plays a bigger part in some players ability to perform than others. Delaney being a point in case!

For those slagging chambers off, this is a player that was player of season only 2 seasons ago, and was thought highly enough to be given the captaincy. if he does sign, lets give him a fair crack of the whip shall we, instead of waiting for him to **** up!

cant agree on anyone who can see anything and i do mean anything positive about Delaney other than his commitment. He is shocking, he throws his body in the way of anything but has about as much footballing ability and footballing intelligence as the average dog turd. He is the epithany of the saying 'god loves a trier' he keeps on going but its normally nowhere near where he should be, in fact he often makes me wonder why I am not a professional football. Im sure I could offer as much (ie nothing) as him every saturday.

Guru, I'm not slagging him off I'm expessing my opinion that I think he's ****. Tractorbhoy has done this with Delaney.

Are you intimating that we are not allowed to have differing views on current or prospective players?

Agreed he is an improvement on anything we currently have- for a free it's relatively risk free. I do feel Delaney gets a bit of a raw deal, he's had to deal with having no regular goalkeeper behind him and worse than average defenders alongside him. Don't get me wrong, the last thing I want to see is him playing week in week put, but he's a solid back up

Blue Monkey, not saying that in the slightest, but unfortunately we have some fans who rather have a signing fail and be proved right, rather than the signing be a success and them to be proved wrong.

Not pointing any fingers, just the general impression i get!

My phrasing could be kinder but I stand by the fact I think Delaney is all heart and soul and zero footballing ability and positioning. If football was about throwing your body into the line of fire he would get 10/10 every time but he cant pass, his heading is poor, he gets caught out positionally and genuinely scares me everytime the ball goes near him. I agree with Bleakers comment that having a relationship with a proven and constant keeper would definately help in some areas but it wont change the fact that even given time his ball control and passing is beyond poor.

Tbf if Delaney could improve his positioning he would be a half decent defender. He's got all the physical attributes, he can head the ball, he can tackle, he can block, he's strong and shows good desire and attitude, he's not slow but unfortunately his reading of the game and positional play is terrible and this is probably the most important thing for a CB add to that is his passing is awful. The problem with Delaney is he doesn't make any stand out errors(unlike say Sonko) but his positional play leaves the whole defence out of line and everyone has to cover for him. He is like the defender version of Norris, on the face of it he doesn't look that bad but when you consider the influence it has on the whole team you realise you don't want a player like this in your team!!

I often think he was the reason why McAuley got the raw deal whilst he was at the club, Delaney never made obvious mistakes but was always out of position meaning McAuley always looked like he was on the back foot when infact he was covering Delaney add to that Edwards positional play is pretty poor also, I think we can now all appreciate the job McAuley did last year!! McAuleys may have looked lumbersome because of his pace but his positional play and reading of the game was superb, we would have finished top half last season with McAuley in the team!! Positional play is one of the most important aspects of a players game in every position, unfortunately this is often overlooked for running around like a headless chicken!!

As for Chambers, I do not know too much about the player but sounds like he could be good for us despite the criticism from his own fans(like McAuley was getting this time last year), he clearly is a decent player and sounds like he needs a fresh start much like Leadbitter!!

Thought United had ruled out loaning Powell out at all? Chambers and Davis would be decent additions, especially Chambers on a free.

Chambers is being knocked by Forest fans simply because he is not signing a new deal, they'd be singing a different song if he was staying. Solid defender who suffered with a poor midfield in front of him last season. YEP reporting Leeds are in for him as well, so should be an interesting tussle. Ward went to Palace as his missus wanted London, could be Palace will be selling Clyne. Wonder if Jewell can get Ipswich going this season? Oh, you can always come and sign Billy Paynter, Paul Rachubka, Paul Connolly and Andy O'Brien from us if you really wanted. Probably get all on a free as well.

According to TWTD "Talks are ongoing". In other words he probably wants to hear what Leeds have to say, and they will probably offer him more than 5 bob and a rusty spanner that Clegg has laid on the table. I'm sure we'll see him in a Leeds shirt this time tomorrow ffs.
