I just can't even get the logic of this bid - we already know that a PL side were offering £750k? What exactly is Pearson thinking this will achieve?
Unsettling the player, unsettling the squad etc etc. He did this with Stewart in January. As Nick Barmby said, in his typically understated manner, he's being a bit naughty!
Dirty tactics, getting rid of Promotion competition. Tryna put us out of the picture. End result: Pearson is a twat.
tbh I would accept it , force reading into making a bid ... hey financially its only good for us especially since we will go 4-4-2 next season
Pretty sure Bruce will not be panicked by this, as we shouldn't be. If he's leaving this summer (which, incidentally, I think is a distinct possibility) it will be to the Premier League, subject Reading's alleged interest being genuine. For all we know, he may not be in Bruce's plans anyway. As Tickler says, TIME WILL TELL. If, however, Reading isn't the eventual destination, and Bruce rates him, I see no real reason why he'd choose to leave to go to Leicester over staying here. Pearson, of course, keen on playing him wide right in a rigid 4-4-2. I'd back Bruce to sit him down, stroke his ego, and convince him to stay. Just how I see it.
Which would help us out in the transfer market since we've only got 1 winger and 7 central midfielders signed or strongly linked. (Evans, McKenna, Cairney, Olofinjana, Coutts, Tunnicliffe, Koren) EDIT: If we do go with that system it'd suggest that Dudgeon and Rosenior rather than Dawson and Rosenior will be the starting full backs as the width/pace would need to come from them. (Alternatively Heskey could pull wide from up front)
so where does stewart and wingers fit in ? .... nowhere ... where does mckenna, evans, koren, stewart, tunnicliffe, etc fit in as well as heskey and fryatt .. hell where does mclean fit in ? .. All Im saying is a 1/2 mill return on a player who was so unsettled he got his agent to put a statement to the HDM ... is worth it IMO
you saw what happened last season when we relied on him .. he got injured and we fell away promotion wise ... maybe he is a luxury that we cannot think to accomodate or rely on .. maybe SB is thinking squad wise .. lets be honest , who would play in his "role" ?
Stewart would fit in up front with Fryatt and McLean/Simpson as the options for 2nd striker alongside Heskey, or as the cover for Koren. We don't have any other wingers. McKenna sits at the base of the diamond. Evans, Tunnicliffe, Cairney contest the 2 central slots with Koren in the hole. £500k is a crap return for a player who's agent after 2 years in the Championship thought he'd try and get him one last big money contract from a PL club that was recently taken over by a Russian billionaire.
we will see .. I look fwd to the comments about Koren come October November then .. if he is still here (which I dont think he will be) his agent is engineering a move .. can you not see this ?
For me, and clearly I'm not Steve Bruce, I'm just a schmuck on a website, I'd say Koren & Stewart are both vital squad members who must stay. Koren, for the obvious quality & experience. Stewart, for the raw talent that just needs honing, and the form rediscovering.
We don't need anyone to play the 'Koren role' it won't exist next season. That is an appauling offer though nonetheless.
