This is the latest from the BBC:

"BBC Sport's David Ornstein reports that Robin Van Persie is set to resume talks about his Arsenal future once he returns from his post-Euro 2012 holiday in early July. The striker is understood to be content to see out the final year of his contract with the Gunners despite reports linking him with an imminent move to Manchester City. While meetings have taken place between the two parties, Arsenal have not yet started discussions over a new contract with the Netherlands forward."

The following are taken from David Ornsteins Twitter:

"Van Persie to resume talks with Arsenal when back from Caribbean break. He's keen to stay, with or without new contract. Ball in #afc court."

"Talk of Van Persie to City very premature, but Arsenal yet to discuss new contract with him. It could still go any of three ways #afc #mcfc"

If this is to be believed it looks like RVP wants to stay for atleast one more year. I'm thinking maybe Van Persie has told Arsenal what he wants and is waiting for there offer when he returns from Holiday. If we don't offer what he is after i think he will stay for his last year anyway.

I was always confident he would be with us next season but this is re-assuring news. Things are starting to look bright for Next Season!

Serious question: Would you rather RVP leave now with City paying u a tidy sum for him or him leaving on a free next summer and get nothing?

Nothing new here. Some think he should stay and help us get CL football next season, others (like me) say sell now and invest the money in someone else.

The £20m we would get for him is dwarved by the £40m we would get for CL qualification though.

I think Van Persie staying will mean silverware this season as i firmly believe Wenger is making the changes needed. So i'd keep him regardless.

I'm in a minority but I would sell him if he refuses to sign a new contract as he won't play with full heart even if he intends to

Why wouldn't he play with heart? He's not like other players in that he isn't engineering a move away. He seems to want to stay and play for Arsenal - even if its only for a year to see if we can improve. He comes across as a player who always wants to do well - i dont see his form suffering if he doesn't sign a new contract but stays.

Just my opinion I may be wrong of Course but even if I am he isn't as essential as people are making out to ensuring cl qualification. He has had only one injury free season his entire career and not many years left playing at the highest level. If he doesn't sign a new contract it also stinks on the basis that he has displayed a lot of disloyalty considering the club have stuck with him throughout all his injury plagued seasons and transformed him into the striker he is today. We were a force before him and will be after him. No player is bigger than the club.

I think he will sign a new contract to be honest. Here he can become a legend. And Arsenal will build a quality team around him. I think Wenger is making sure he signs up some top quality players to come into the squad before the Van Persie Negotiations begin to show we are moving in the right direction.

In the ideal world the signing of M'villa will be announced within the next few days and RVP and Walcott will both sign new contracts during the first week or two of July.
Rumours going round Twitter today that M'villa was at Arsenal Training Ground yesterday (*fingers crossed*).

As much as I want him to stay, if he refuses to sign and plays for another year then I think that what you said above will happen. The sad thing is if he underpeforms and Pod and Giroud steal the limelight, getting all the goals resulting in us winning silverware, RVP's value will go down causing him to re-sign his contract for all the wrong reasons.

Hopefully that is indeed the scenario. Yeah I heard the M'vila rumours too. It was a French journalist from Canal++ on twitter who started off the rumours. The guy is definitely not a fake from what I've heard but that doesn't mean he is right. Either way I'm confident we will sign M'vila and hopefully begin negotiations with Rvp. It would be great if he does sign.

I hope he signs a new contract but either way we've got an incredible strike force next season! I don't think RVP will play with 'less heart' if he plays only one more season; he's a professional footballer, will want to score goals, loves the club which stuck by him and would want to attract top teams if he decides to leave. For all these reasons he will play to the best of his ability. Bring in M'Vila or a DM of similar quality and exciting times at the Arsenal!!

He'll wait to see who Arsenal buy, and how well we do, before putting pen to paper.

If we do well I think he'll sign at Xmas.

I think the decision whether he stays if he refuses to commit long term, will not be his (RVP) or Wenger's to make. I feel Arsenal FC should set him a deadline preferrably a week before pre-season, definitely before the season starts, tell him if he does not sign, it is bye-bye and we'll auction him to the highest bidder. We ARE not £ity, no way can we afford to let our best player go for free, if you can make upwards of £30mill on him now.

The last thing is for this contract issue to carry on into the season, like we started last season, with Nasri/Fabregas. I definitely would not want a contract rebel to be the captain of AFC, regardless of who they are!

Are you his agent, the old chesnut, I'll sign for you at Xmas, at which point he is almost a free agent and is free to speak to other clubs and sign pre-contract deals. I cannot see AFC falling that one!

best approach. Waiting until christmas is suicidal in many regards. We've done all we can to show our ambition should he refuse to sign sell and bring in a replacement.

I think with Arsenal signing both Podolski and Giroud, RVP might be leaving. It's never a good sign if a player is holding out on signing a contract extension.

Looks like he's set to stay then.

If he really wanted to leave he would be trying to make the move happen before pre season starts.
