Sunderland boss Martin O'Neill has been sounded out about Sporting Lisbon forward Ricky van Wolfswinkel.

The Portuguese club may be willing to sell on the cheap this summer after initially wanting in excess of £15m.

But Sporting may have to sell players after a disappointing season and there has been interest from Italy and England in the wonderfully named Dutch international.

Not sure mate but he is a canny player, his stats are impressive for a 23year old, I personally think from the lads point of view will be that a move to us would be a step backwards, if he moves it will be a top 6 prem team but I hope I am wrong, think I would rather have this lad than Fletcher to lead the line for the club

    Vitesse 2009/10 - 36apps 12goals
    Vitesse 2010/11 - 44apps 23goals
    Sporting 2-11/12 - 46apps 25goals

wouldn't mind a double raid on Sporting for him and Matias Fernandez

    Best name ever.

Also a cracking striker, this one is spreading and it is starting to look like he may be our primary target.

Strong, good in the air and a good finisher, I'd be delighted with this one (and second poolie's Fernandez line, one of my fave players in the world)

That name is the best. We should get him just for the revenue increase he'd bring in shirt sales.

I watched him for Sporting against Bilbau in the Europa Lague semi's last season and he looked good but thats exactly the point, we arent in Europe!

The prices being quoted for Fletcher though we could buy him and offer more wages than Sporting do but obviously not European footy.

    Fletcher or The Wolf?

This is more to do with forcing Wolves hand though if he agrees personal terms both would be nice :D

I doubt wether us not playing in europe is such a deal breaker. I reckon players will come to put themselves in the shop window for the top clubs in the premier league. If he does the business, others will come sniffing in no time at all. In the mean time, his bank balance is getting a nice injection of cash he won't be getting in Portugal.
