Don't know enough about him to judge, as far as being underwhelmed is concerned can think of many people I've felt like that about and been proved wrong.

With Lovenkrands, Best, Ba, Xisco and Ranger all possibilities to leave it stands to reason we'd be after more than just De Jong to replace them, even if our formation has changed.

Now the Euros are over (from and English point of view), the rumour mill will be picking up speed.

Very much doubt we'd be signing De Jong AND another forward for £8m. Much more likely it will be one of them and if they feel we need another forward, probably take a gamble on a forward for £2m or on loan. Still, I'd be more than happy to be proved wrong.

I wish there was an embargo on the media printing every 2+2=47 rumour. All that's been said is he's hoping to leave, and that it should be this Summer because his price will go down to nothing within two years. That's it. No Newcastle scout has been spotted at a PSV game, no comment from the player attributing himself to a Newcastle move, and it's difficult to see how a player with a distinct lack of pace is going to be high on the agenda? I might be wrong, but if we cast our minds back to last Summer, the media tended to get wind of a Newcastle deal around the same time as the rest of us! Cabaye announced to the world he was joining, Ba was pretty much through the door when the news 'broke'. Cisse in January was even better.

Maybe there's a prize available for being first with a rumour, which is why so many are invented. The only things I am certain of this Summer is that Newcastle will buy at least 2 players and RvP will leave Arsenal. Outside of that, who knows.

I remember a year or so ago someone on here was bumming Toivonen. Not literally, but obsessed with him. Was it you, Tash?

Ola Toivonen: ****ing bastard, extremely annoying player. He provokes players and referee's, he's a guy you just want to punch in the face after the game.
He's not a striker, best positioned as AM. Can play CM and DM as well. Great technique, can take free kicks and penalties. His decision making is poor though, he just lacks speed in that department. His acceleration is good, agility aswell. His main strength is his stamina and tactical insight. He can give a brilliant pass, and he can shoot from distance. His heading is perfect, most of his goals are from corners or crosses in the box.

    Pro's:
    Technique
    Heading
    Strenght
    Stamina
    Playmaking
    Passing
    Tactical insight
    Provoking the opposition

    Cons:
    Mentally weak
    Defensively weak
    Real bastard

Holland is simply the new France as far as we're concerned. If you play there, you're coming to us!

I'd have to agree with your sentiments on being underwhelmed Albert

I don't believe you AB. Messi fair enough but Iniesta is 28 now and we'd have to break our transfer policy. I think you may be having us on here.............

Upon reading the article i found myself smiling, Twente reportedly turned down a 10 million quid deal. Like i said, it will take at least 11 to 12,5 million.
Toivonen is not an alternative for Luuk de Jong. The two couldn't be more different. Although Toivonen can play as a striker, but that experiment failed miserably at PSV. He was ordered to play in the box but instead he hang around 20 meters outside the box. Ashley has to dig deep in his wallet for De Jong, or get a different striker. It is a gamble, but at Roda JC they got a Syrian striker named Malki, he's much cheaper and he plays abit like De Jong, just not as good as De Jong.
