chicken pox

Off topic sorry!!! My neice has chicken pox and i been staying over my sisters just wondering if i caught it (im 22) would it be harmful?

 

Yeah, I seem to remember reading somewhere its much worse for adults.

 

You'll be fine, it'll itch to buggery but I doubt you'll have any real issues.

 

It's very unlikely to make you seriously ill, although it is more serious for adults than it is for children.

Have you not had it already?

If you have already had it as a child it could come as Shingles as an adult. If you did not have it as a child, Catching Chicken pox as an adult is not too pleasant either although it should not do you any lasting harm. The one you want to avoid as an adult is mumps. Although you do not see that so much today at all. Mumps can make you sterile.

 

You don't really see mumps at all these days because kids are routinely immunised against it. Until that plonker Wakefield had his fifteen minutes of fame anyway!

I had chicken pox around your age and i wont lie it was unpleasant for the first few days and the itching was unbearable but do your utmost not to scratch the spots even if it seems impossible as it can leave small potmark scars

 

I had shingles last month, very painful and unpleasant, for which I was prescribed anti-viral drugs and painkillers. You can only develop shingles if you had chickenpox earlier in life. If you have shingles you are contagious and may end up transmitting the chicknpox virus to someone if they have never had chickenpox before. Certainly best to avoid pregnant women.

It has left some scarring from the rash and blisters and the pains can linger for months afterwards.

 

I have Hooping Cough at the moment, which i thought went out with the Ark and is horrible.
Is there any recommendations or words of wisdom you can give me that my inept GP hasn't Doctor Rich ?

 

My brother had one spot, whereas I was covered head to foot and even had spots under my eyelids and other places you don't want to know about. The chance is that you may have had it mildly as a child and not noticed.

 

Trouble with both Shingles and Chicken pox you are the most contageous probably at a point well before you discover you have it and will have been for a few days. That is why it spreads so quickly.

For whopping cough as a boy I remember they used to make kids breath in the steam from a Balsam bath. In other words get some Balsam put it in a bowl pour boiling water over it and stick your head over it with a towel over it and breath in the fumes. Later they changed the balsom for something else but you would have to ask the chemist what it now is. Seem to help then would assume it would now.

 

Whopping cough sounds so much worse than whooping cough

 

I would like to say i was having a coughing moment fran and missed the W out by mistake but alas it was down to rushing again. My better half is always telling me to slow down.

I have tried similar things in the 2 months i have had it, but it seems it is really a case of managing the breathing problems the best you can and hopefully it wont last much longer.
Not good on the five a side field though.

 

When my mum was working at a school in Portsmouth a Dad their died from Chickenpox as it spread down his windpipe and into his lungs.
