If you were an SPL Chairman, how would you vote? Would you let the New Rangers in the SPL this season? Edit: Bollocks I forgot to put the s at the end of ranger in the thread title
Absolutely, most teams apart from Celtic and a couple others depend on the two Glasgow teams for revenue boosts when they play them!
I voted No. A clear message has to be sent out to everyone,, ffs. What credibility is left for the SPL by all other leagues will be sadly gone IMO if they allow Rangers back in. Down to League 3 if it were down to me for as long as it takes to sort out the Old Rangers chaos.
There's also a possibility that if the Old Firm monopoly can be broken interest within Scottish football might be invigourated and crowds may rise as a consequence. Long term it's probably healthier for the SPL to have the chance of a more competitive league.
Perhaps, but if i was the chairman of a small club in the SPL i wouldn't risk it. For the record my personal opinion is that they shouldn't be allowed back in, as tickler said a message needs to be sent out.
If they get put in the 3rd tier it will interesting to see how many they get at Ibrox next season. I voted no to them being in the SPL, frenchie was absolutely spot on with what he said.......for once
I'd let them start in the First Division if they hold on to a reasonable number of this year's squad, otherwise lower. There has to be accountability for the ridiculous way the club was managed.
Have to have them in it or the league is a complete joke up there, not that I could care less about Jock football
Looks like they're out, six clubs have already confirmed that they're going to vote no.... http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/18577192
I think people seem to be missing a major factor. Usually the monopoly is such up there that there is literally 0.00001% chance of any other club makiing into the Champions League qualifiers. Now if I was the chairman of Motherwell (who are now in by default), Aberdeen, Dundee Utd et all I would be thinking this is the best chance we will EVER have and if by stroke of luck they pull a couple of easy draws or fluke a result they could boost their income by £10million (or whatever it is) by making the group stages. Reason enough to vote against methinks. And it didnt hurt Napoli or Fiorentina. Werent Napoli back in the CL something like 8 years after being relegated to Serie C for financial difficulties? And Fiorentina got successive promotions in exactly the same situation. Rangers will be back up in no time and if I was a fan I would be looking forward to visiting somehting different other than the monotomy of the usual 10 grounds and taking shedloads of fans to places that normally get 300 fans for mathcday. It'd be a lark.
Other than the "Old Firm" and Champions League games does anybody know what sort of support do Rangers take to away games. As Bum Chinned states the chances of a team getting into the Champions League must be more lucrative financial prospect than a home league game against Rangers.
I read that they take about 4,000 away(more to the Celtic game obviously) and losing Rangers supporters would cost the other clubs about £100k a game.
Rangers appear to be the only club to say yes on 4th July. Great news for the SPL and sends out a clear message. Just what sort of team the New Rangers will have is open to debate. I despair that 7 voted....YES. ffs.
So who do you think will get the 'Club 12' slot now that newco wont be in SPL....Dunfermline or Dundee?
