Anyone on here in the process of doing this. I was on my 20th day and have just sucumbed to the ****ers again. Basically i went cold turkey and frankly the urges werent to bad but something inside me has made me start again on the basis that i only have a packet a week (lol) I guess its the fact i always enjoyed having the odd tab but knew that i had to cut down so if anyone has any tips on how to combat the little buggers without gum or patches etc it would be much appreciated.

    Legalise weed!!!!!!!

You can smoke that every day and not get near the same amount of damage.

I stopped smoking 8 years ago because my youngest son asked me to....he had seen a programme at his school.I didn't want to let him down,so I stopped. It was hard, and I could still "butch one now"....after smoking for over 30 years.it was tough, but will-power wins in the end!!

I wouldn't have been able to quit without using the patches. Worked for me , it's worth considering using them mate.

I smoked 60 a day for years, tried to stop and failed many times. One October evening around 23 years ago I was watching TV, lit a *** and said I don't want to do this any more, not smoked since.

Moral is when the time is right you will, until then its hard.

I agree with your last line. Im still only a bairn really at 25 but i dont want this habit to go on my whole life. I know it will be hard for the first few weeks maybe even months. Im definately cutting down but its like you say im not sure im ready to stop.

Thing is i dont want to become addicted to the patches. I need a reason to make me stop. Im moving in with my missus when we can afford it which shouldnt be too long away. I want to use that as my motivation so i dunno if its at the back of my mind to continue until then but i am definately cutting down to 2 or 3 a day maximum.

I quit a day before the Tyne/Wear Derby this year, thought if i can get through the next 2 days without one, then nothing will faze me, I havnt touched one since and that was cold turkey, but my wife still smokes 20 a day, so when I see a pack lying there, or even buy them from the shop for her, it kills me, probably about twice a day I get a really strong craven for them, but I have resisted so far.

I did try that niccorette spray stuff, burns your tounge off and just made me crave for a cig more as it gave me the taste, so chucked that and like i said cold turkey done the trick, and I was a 20-30 a day smoker.

My old man quit smoking after smoking 60 a day for 40 years. He found it tough, but used the electronic ones... he says they are much better, although he is taking in more nicotine as he sits and puffs on them all day without knowing it.. :S

When my mam died of cancer I promised her I'd quit my habit. On NY eve 2010 I put all my ***s/cigars on a BBQ (over £50 quids worth) and torched the lot.
Never touched one since. Sometimes you need a reason strong enough to break the cycle.
