The statistics show Italy dominated in every way but here are a couple of surprising nuggets.

Pirlo managed 3 times as many passes as our most frequent passer. The old saying goes that the team without the ball have to work much harder than the team passing it about, so the "meaningless possession" expression doesn't often apply. Pirlo is getting on a bit at 33 so of coarse he's going to use all his experience to save him and his teammates unnecessary leg work.
    But...
Fair play to Pirlo for displaying such desire, skill and motivation, shame on England for getting outclassed not only technically but also physically.

The sad thing is when you see a player like Pirlo, it only makes you realise England have no players of true world classness!

Not one England player could of got into that Italy team last night!

We really have to start a master plan and plan for 10 years down the line like the Germans did and it is upto the FA to get Prem teams to have at least 6 English players in there starting 11 and two must be under 23.

What makes it more embarrassing is that Italy aren't even a possession team.

Their domestic league isn't based on possession, and their national team rarely dominates possession. If they play Spain they'll just let the Spanish have the ball and not be too fussed about it.

What makes it even worse is they were playing 'English' style longball.

Roy's tactics made them look good.

On paper there isn't that much between the sides.

Capello would have put out a 4-2-3-1 and it would have been a wholly different match.

Giving Pirlo a minimum of 10 yards of space at all times and not even trying to close him down when he had the ball is pretty stupid. But those were the tactics handed to the players.
