We recently play 5 - aside football and normally in 5 a side the system we have is literally man marking each player on and off the ball and it has worked really well recently we have started playing 7 aside games and we have literally got battered hardly had the ball and when we went up we just got hit on the break just wondering that kinda tactics you you approach in 7 a side games man to man does not really work as pitch is too big whats a good formation to have? opinions welcomed
I play 11-a-side on a Sunday, 5-a-side on a Tuesday & 7-a-side on a Thursday. Regarding 7-a-side....Man Marking on such a big pitch is pointless, if one of you loses your man your in trouble. Personally i'd play 3-2-1, have a goal hanging forward with your 2 midfielders and one of your defenders joining in with attacking. Then when you lose it, leave your forward and a midfielder up and drop the other 4 behind the ball. Lot's of running involved for the midfielders, but i imagine you've got subs, or could switch a midfielder with a defender
Hire Sam Allardyce as manager? He'll have you playing free-flowing, attacking and successful football... You do have money for pre-match and post-match pasties yes?
Good advice here, as for me i agree man marking pointless. You need to play a more zonal game but be hard working enough and have enough football nous to cover each other where needed. As for formation i favour 2 at the back, 3 in midfield with a quality pivot man in the middle and 2 quick and hard working wide players then one quick hard working striker who stays up. The midfield 3 get through a lot of work particularly the wide 2 who operate as wide midfielders, wingers/strikers and also have to track back as full backs to give 4 at the back when under attack so these are the ones who need the most cover when it comes to subs so worth bearing in mind when it comes to selecting your squad. Dont know at what level you are playing but we played that with kids where you have rolling subs so it works particularly well when you can swap when neccessary. Not a game for shirkers though. If you want to succeed everyone needs to be switched on and working hard. Hope this helps.
