Scott - the point being, whether its Yakubu or anyone else, one would expect a better return than DG has achieved (ie its a debate about DG rather than Yakubu per se) Do you really think that DG should be our leader of the line next season?
Yes I think he should be the man up front, last season was a massive step up for him from playing at Watford. Not only was he at a new team that played in a completely different way, he had the baptism of fire of playing in the premier league. He will get at least 15 goals next season, and if we get our wingers and an attacking mid fielder in we should be banging them in, laudrup will get the very best of our forward line
nice to see some recognizing the fact that we need better than danny's ability...well done.. if it was me i would move danny to midfield where he would be better suited.....and scott i never said he has signed for forest as you well know.i said many many times that jinks took him to forest with the view of selling him to them.....morgan and the rest of the board stopped it happening due to two directors saying they would resign if it happened. jinks was stopped from selling any of the players without the boards approval from that day on.....fact
If you listened to Laudrup's interview he said that there will be no wholesale changes, so it will mean working with what we got in the main. We need an attacking mid field player and a centre back urgently, with another as a back up. I can't see the club going for another forward at all when we have Graham, Lita and Moore with us. That said if anyone leaves us they would need to be replaced as well
Of course, but we don't have the money to buy a 20+ goal player, you don't appear to get the concept that they cost a hell of a lot of money. I would lay odds on graham being the first choice next season, and unless we can sell Lita or Moore then we won't be bringing anyone in that position.
Unless you want to buy a £15mil striker for us, then yes. Who would you rather have? He was acquired for a nominal (for the PL) sum, and the only person who outscored him ALL SEASON who you'd think "Maybe he can score more than them" is Holt. Given the way we play, and that it took DG time to gel with our system, I'd imagine his goal return to be better this coming year, especially with Laudrup's attacking intent plain to see, and the negativity that continues to surround DG baffles me. He scored more than loads of much more expensive, celebrated strikers, and also worked his balls off to boot. No pleasing some people.
That's very true! We've got to work within our means, which means anyone we could conceivably bring in that position will again be unproven in the premier league. We have a proven striker who can score goals, now we have a manager who can quite possibly get the best out of him.
It's no problem Valley if you can't see Laudrup and the club going in for another forward, because I can, matter of fact it will be crucial to our sucsess next season, but don't take my word for it, this is how Laudrup put it!................ Of course when he said "It is also good if you can find a player who can cover two or maybe three positions, because that makes it easier to change things.", he was talking in the context of scoring goals, so if you want to see it the way you do, then be my guest, but I see it completely different, matter of fact, I know we are in the market for another forward!..................
Dragon I can't see us in for another forward unless we ship some out, as I said above. But Superswan wanting a 20 goal one is just not going to happen unless we are extremely lucky, him expecting graham to score 20 goals or more on his maiden season is utterly absurd. Aguera who came from I Think Real Madrid only managed 23 and he cost £38m and was playing top flight football in Spain. Whatever is decided it will be within budget, some need to face reality here, we are a mid table premier league side, we are not going to have world class players at our club unless they are home grown. But we are facing world class player in other teams, expecting players to score 20 goals or more is so deluded it defies words.
By the way dragon that is Dobbie's problem he can't cover more than specific role, and doesn't have the energy to get forward enough
I think DG will be and should be apart of the team next season, but what I think is vital is that we have a threat like Siggy either as a AM or ST. DG can play as a AM or ST his work rate is second to none and his off ball movement is great as well if he drops back a little and we have a big striker upfront to hold and release to him at the right time, it might be a good option! (a bit like what jason scotland did for us as a striker) that will fit what Laudrup is saying that we need versatile players I for one is a big fan of DG! I thought he was excellent for us last season and given time he will improve!
What!!! we cant afford a better striker. we paid £3.5 for danny and he has not lived up to expectations, his finishing is poor so much so sinclair would rather go on his own for goal than pass to him, how many time have fans on here keep banging on that danny never got no service???? Have you ever questioned why??? could it be because nobody trusted his finishing ability.....could very well be the reason. If we cant afford better than danny then why could we afford double what danny cost us for siggs.....so dont make the excuse we cant afford a better striker because we can and we will. we will have to if we are going to survive as danny dont have the lone striker ability as its there for everyone to see. A 20+ striker is the top of the shopping list for laudrup if we are going to play one up front....
Dai, this is where you're wrong. Graham HAS lived up to peoples expectations. Just because you wanted him to score 50 goals last season doesn't mean he's underperforming. Your continued bashing of the man who played the entire season working his balls off baffles me.
Listen Dai- number of goals scored means nothing.Number of games he scored winning goals count e.g if his goals won us matches then 12 goals = 36 points , get it?
where 15 barren games, if it was not for siggs early goals and vorms saves that made him player of the season then what danny contributed would have sent us straight back to the championship. he is not the striker we need playing one up front. he dont score enough and his finishing is one of the worst in the premiership. he would be better suited back in the championship or with a team that dont play our system. he is a goal scorer for his type of football but not good enough for ours. its a shame i know but if an individual player is just not right then you replace him with one that is, Brendan got it wrong on him and that happens sometimes, but one thing for sure we will struggle if we have to rely on danny getting enough goals this season the way he showed last season.......
Dai I agree Danny boy could be more clinical up front, but at this level you need more than one striker that can return a 10 to 15 goal tally, I had Graham down for 15 goals last season, and he was not far short, so give him a break, we won't be getting rid of him any time soon, but another striker to challenge his starting position is crucial, plus a Siggy replacement, of course as Laudrup has stated, if we can get a striker to cover both those positions then one forward will do, personally I feel a mid field General in the mold of Bodde would really set our game alight!..........
that would be fine dragon but you still have to have a striker that can finish and danny cant as he showed. Its no good playing a lone striker who is poor and have to rely on the midfield to get the goals. 12 goals all season for a player who is suppose to be the main striker. he should be scoring 20+ with no problem if he was good enough, if we had other prolific goal scorers then 12 goals would be ok but we dont, we were so lucky to get someone like siggs to do dannys job for a short while before he was sussed and kept quiet for the last 5 games plus a superb display by vorm all season, that if they never bailed us out we would have been relegated. The striker especially a loan striked must be able to finish better than danny did all season or we will be in trouble big time and i think laudrup will bring someone in who is more of a lone striker than danny will ever be....its not his forte, he did his best and thats all you can ask but his best wont be good enough this second season. thats the way football is im afraid, you can work hard and run around like a headless chicken but if you dont have that killer finishing instinct then we will pay for it..we got lucky last season but you cant rely on luck as it tends to desert you after a while. you need the right players that are confident of playing our way and we are lacking up front and it needs to be addressed before the season starts....we cannot hang around this time and must have a good start as we have the worst end of season games if we need points to survive than anyone......
