Near the end of last season when I was calling for Hessy to resign, I said I thought Tilson would do a great job and I stand by that now. His record speaks for itself at Southend with back to back promotions and if you ask any Southend fan he's tactically astute any they played nice football under him. I still think Lee Clark would be the outstanding candidate but I just can't see him dropping to our level. I know that's not answering your question but heyho. I think Bollan would be a disaster!!
so lenny i take it your making the point as much as you can, that from the beginning you mark0000, gfc0000 and your friends from skybet etc wanted tilson as manager...two words...digging hole the guy won't and shouldn't be gillingham fc manager....should it god for sake happen...he'll be the cheap option as ever with paul scally !
I just think we need to be realistic, we are Div 2 side we aren't going to get a big name. Tilson would be a cheap option, but a cheap option with a bit of pedigree.
Returning to the original question, I could well fall into that category. Steve has had huge success at a club similar to ourselves in a few respects. A replication is exactly what we have been looking for, with more than a few failed attempts so far! Speaking truthfully, Allen, Adams, Clark, Scott and Ince could not work with the Chairman insisting on the Director of Football role. Who does that leave? Tilson is perhaps worth a try; leave him to the coaching, Hessenthaler to the transfers. I don't get the vibe from Steve that this would be a problem and given that he signed Sinclair, Gowling and Nutter for Lincoln - perhaps he is best kept away from the transfer budget
Steve Tilson is probably the only candidate that would work with Hessenthaler. Plus, he will be ok with the transfer budget. To be honest, I think with the squad we have and all the youngsters given pro contracts that we will only sign another 3 or 4 players.
